Hey y'all!
For the ones who know me, here's what's been going on in my life, both the negative and the positive. This partly justifies my absence from Stage 32:
The negative:
- Being in debt, more so than before because of this goddamn economic umbrella we're living under. But, I manage. I reassure myself by thinking I'm not alone in this.
- Instability at my current workplace (my employer had to cut us down because of the insufficient quota we have to deliver every week), which forced me to be on social welfare, while still working part-time. So, it's not all bad. I'm still under contract.
- A disastrous book launch last week; most people decided to choke on it and couldn't attend for a multitude of reasons. I only had three people to discuss the book with... I'm not as discouraged as I was though, which leads to...
The positive:
- Being in "research mode" for my screenwriting gig: I left the script aside to focus more on my lectures. I don't feel as motivated to rewrite right now, because I feel like I have a lot more to learn still. I might revise it again soon. Time will tell. Having knowledge at your doorstep is a key to success in my opinion. It also grounds you more.
- Attending my first author convention as a professional writer: I'm still awe-struck that I succeeded in writing my book. I can't believe that I will be share the spotlight with authors like Michel Tremblay (a well-known French-Canadian novelist and playwright). Unbeliveable that I made it in 2023! lol
- Thinking of going back to my student days: I'm in deep reflection as far as what I can do after publishing the book. I might complete a certificate in pedagogy, but nothing is set in stone. I did try to teach history in the past, but to no avail. To be continued...
So yeah, I'm focusing on the positives to outweigh the negatives, even though it's hard. How about you folks?

I’m impressed on writing your book! that’s huge! so many of us have projects started, partly complete but takes forever to actually complete.
I’m glad you have positive to balance out the negative. such is this business we’ve chosen!
well the community is always here so keep coming back and letting us know what’s up. I fee like there is always someone if not many who can relate and it helps to know you’re not the only one.
take care of yourself.

Hey, @Marcel Nault Jr.. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs. Life has its twists on my end too: thrilled I wrote a book and translated it to English but challenged by my whirlwind juggling roles (balancing expenses and incomes included). Let's keep on with our multifaceted lives.

Marcel Nault Jr. Hi Marcel, I’m sorry to hear about your book launch. I had one a few years ago for my novel, “0w1:believe” and it went well but it could’ve gone a whole lot better. However, we noticed that when publicising the novel, it’s rating went up in the Amazon ratings. (The highest we got was 300 in the listings). When we didn’t publicise it, it went down. It was difficult to get sustainable traction, mostly because of the lack of finance behind it.
It always seems to be the case though, that as writers our imagination outweighs our bank balance!
But well done in those positives that you listed. That’s very encouraging. Is there a link to purchase the book. What is it about? What was the inspiration?

Sorry about the negative things that've happened, Marcel Nault Jr. I hope things get better for you. Glad to hear about the positive things.
I've been networking, writing scripts, and pitching scripts (since the WGA strike has ended -- I'm not a WGA member, but I didn't feel right pitching scripts while the WGA was on strike).

Geoff Hall Fair warning, it's in French. Here's the link nevertheless: https://www.amazon.ca/Cuba-Chili-Qu%C3%A9bec-Consolidation-anti-imp%C3%A...

Geoff Hall It's based on my Master's essay (95% of it is). The inspiration came from challenging myself. It's as simple as that.
