Hmmm….let’s look at what else you could do with what he’s given. So if you look at the roots F C G you can see things moving in fifths. There's an Am a major third away leading to the F. Let’s squeeze more grease out of it and use that through the pattern. Am to F….Em To C…Bm to G and we can continue this as far as we want. Also let’s voice it in 5ths.

I think this is great advice! Instead of calling them 'tricks,' I'd view them as key tools and techniques, much like those found in the tradition of Bach Chorales. He articulated it really well!
