'Juror #2' may mark the 94-year-old Clint Eastwood's final film. Why is Warner Bros. releasing it to fewer than 50 theaters?

That's quite interesting. Will have to watch how this plays out.

Philip David Lee

It could be because of Clint Eastwood's political views. James Woods is famously known to be blacklisted for his political leanings and was advised to keep a low profile as to being an executive producer on Oppenheimer. Woods has been noted saying he also received death threats as well though he never stated from who. Juror #2's budget was listed as costing $35M which means it would need to make somewhere around $70M-$80M to break even. From reading the description of the plot, it would fall into the Drama/thriller genre of which dramas are currently 4th in market share at 10.2% in 2024. It could be that P&A for this film would raise the budget significantly to where a wide theatrical release would prove too costly. Who knows with the distribution models of today.

Still Clint Eastwood being 94 and this possibly being his last film, it seems kind of disrespectful that this film, which is getting pretty good reviews (91% from 70+ reviews on RT,) is being given so little fanfare. Hollywood can be a cold mistress so it's possible we may never know the truth. The truth coming out of Hollywood, if it were a movie pitch, would be too unbelievable for "modern audiences" to swallow.

Yeah, I think you make some fair points Philip David Lee. It's definitely hard to give WB the benefit of the doubt after the last few years, in which they seem to zag wildly every time they need to zig. And they have an egregious track record of scrapping movies (Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme come to mind). Eastwood's last movie is certainly a mega-marketing piece and will probably garner way more box office receipts than his movies typically do, although Eastwood's movies have proven time and time again to be pretty good. There's so much positive cache behind Eastwood, this just seems like another wild zag from WB

Dan MaxXx

Someone explain to me like a 5th grader how David Zaslav keeps his job at WB? What is the endgame when WB keep losing money every quarter?

Pat Alexander

Wish i could explain it Dan MaxXx. Unfortunately WB's been run like a monkey throwing a shotput at a dart board for the last 5 years, so no idea. You have a company with 2 legacy brands (WB and HBO) and what do they name their streamer? ...Max... You have a company that makes movies with clear audiences (Batgirl, Coyote v. Acme) that can help bolster their long term outlook via nostalgia, then scraps them after filming... You have a company selling monthly rights to their back catalog for pocket cash... You have a company with some of the greatest TV shows of all time under their banner (Sopranos, True Detective, Euphoria, The Wire, Sex and the City, Game of Thrones) and what's on their app's front page? Schlock Discovery reality TV du jour.... All under Zaslav's watch. His moves are wacky and make no sense. Yet, he gets $50M bonuses for being putrid at his job. Must be nice.

Richard Buzzell

Zaslav has Diddy tapes of all the board members? Only logical explanation I can come up with.

Saw Juror #2 over the weekend, great movie by the way! Would rec checking it out. One of my favorite Eastwood directed films for sure

Zaslav's business plan is failure. He knows the infrastructure has to become more valuable to sell off, than to keep that means wrecking physical production in California, so he can engineer his planned relocation to Nevada, rebrand the studio, slash labor costs, break the unions, and then go to an AI model for narrative production, and the only physical production will be the shitty reality shows. He doesn't care about making movies he cares about money and stock holders, reality shows are cheap to produce and they make money, features are expensive and have diminishing returns so why spend any money on them to advertise when you just dump them on your streaming platform and an audience that is already paying monthly. He's not stupid, he's sinister.
