Distribution : The Battle for Truth and Trust is at Risk of Being Cancelled. by Debbie Elicksen

The Battle for Truth and Trust is at Risk of Being Cancelled.

For over a decade, we've been watching the demise of the newspaper industry and other mainstream media sources, which are desperately needed in times of conflict, corruption, and holding truth to power. Media companies amalgamating, elimination of local representation, and the 24/hour cable punditry is our current reality. Despite that, we have journalists getting stories out through non-traditional means, like YouTube, TikTok (which our US and Canadian governments want to ban, hmm), etc.

Add the discussion of the changing landscape from the film and television industry and the forgotten source is public broadcasting. This is where you get deep dives on culture, art, personalities, and so much more. I'm not sure what the solution is to save it, but this article reminds us that it might go dark tomorrow.

I never thought of it this way and what as actually happening. Newspapers were the life-blood. I'll bet public stations are on Red Alert, thanks for posting.

Good for Tim Davie for amplifying this alarm and thank you for the share, Debbie Elicksen.

It's a rather unsettling situation going on and building up for some time! I'm thankful for being part of this update Debbie Elicksen! Certainly will keep track of general progress concerning the situation, including of course this discussion!

Debbie Elicksen Hmm, Debbie. Banning YouTube and Tik-Tok? I can imagine that the folks at YT would have something to say about that! Maybe it would put them in to the category of covert information services?

Debbie Elicksen

Geoff Hall Both platforms are where the majority can get deep dives and footage on what is happening. There are media stations like Al Jazeera that provide a microscope to things people don't want to see on mainstream. Commenters who discuss politics, pop culture climate, current stories, livestreams of volcanic eruptions, updates from on the ground in Ukraine, and how people ACTUALLY feel about issues. Again, nothing we see on mainstream broadcasting or newspapers channels.

It's all ages. I'm 66 with TWO TikTok channels. TikTok ranges from 20s to 90. There is a 90-year-old that talks about dating. These are my two main news sources now. So if the conversations are not what the crusty fossils in government want to hear, their solution is to ban. Technology will add another platform in its place (see Threads replacing Twitter).

It's also why we hear television pundits bemoan that all parties are tone deaf when it comes to the electorates. They stay in a bubble and only go to places that are privileged. And when they do go to lesser privileged areas, they don't really sit down and talk to people. Especially when it is NOT election season.

Same with the disconnect between generations.
