What do you think abou the AFM in the U.S. and Canada pursuing aggressive legal action?

The American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada continues its aggressive legal campaign against what it claims are unfair practices in the recording and film music industries and streaming revenues. http://bit.ly/1HJ5lxF

Well, I'll break the silence. Other than the fact that I think this 'sue extravaganza' is OTT, I do think there are some important issues. The big guns (Sony et al) will always look after themselves and the actual creators of the music (composers and musicians) get shafted every time, so anything that tries to right this balance is a good thing. We should be paid appropriately. Where I think they've gone a bit nuts is in stipulating what music can be used where, where it can be recorded, who the musicians can be. Basically anything to do with artistic choice should be out of the legal realm. As long as people are paid appropriately film companies producers and directors should be able to make any artistic choice they like.
