I've used GoPro before. I don't think the hype is about the camera, but the tools and accessories that come with it. I just got an email advertising new products on indiegogo and I saw this: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aeon-create-smooth-cinematic-gopro-vi... This is NOT my project, I am not advertising it, but I thought it'd be cool to share. Each time I see it makes me wonder whether or not I should get a GoPro, I feel like some scenes would truly benefit from it. What are ya'lls thoughts?
I'm sure you realize that there are many DIY stabilizers already out there that don't cost anywhere near the coin he wants for that one.
Hi JD, thanks for a quick response. I wasn't aware. DIY is one thing, does it actually work, is another question. The price is pretty steep for it, I'm definitely not getting it right now, especially since I don't even have a GoPro, but the question is mainly, do you think it's worth getting a GoPro? There are so many bells an whistles that go with it, seems like it's something all filmmakers could benefit from having in their duffle bag. I'm just not sure if it's all just hype. The point is, iPhones, when they came out were far behind any Android phone as far as technology goes. They still are. But the hype got everyone to get iPhones, and all the gadget industries switched over to making gadgets purely for iPhones. What are your thoughts on that?
Is a GoPro what you really want to shoot on? Do you think that dinky built in monitor in the stabilizer could possibly help you keep a moving shot framed up? Do you want to buy a stabilizer designed to work with only a specific camera? Others will say the same thing, "Rent cameras, own lenses".
