Three great films that interest myself, and maybe you, too. Wild. This one is definitely going to clear my sinuses. Reese Witherspoon plays award-winning writer Cheryl Strayed in her journey of healing and self-discovery as she hikes the Pacific Crest Trail. The screenwriting, based on the book, makes my heart skip beats. Hardcore Henry. Shot on a Go-Pro Hero 3....first-person narrative viewpoint....and the protagonist never speaks. How would you like to have written that one? Opens tonight. Demolition. Nearly non-stop narration by the protagonist (Jake Gyllenhaal) who, after his wife dies, goes on his own voyage of self-discovery. Opens tonight. Wild, Hardcore Henry, Demolition. Sounds like three interesting films, at least to me. Happy weekend, writey types!

Loved Wild, which brings to my mind one of my favorite literary movements Le Nouveau Roman with its cinematic narrative. Jean-Marc Vallée brings style to his storytelling. Cafe de Flore, Dallas Buyers Club, and Wild give promise to Demolition. I'm seeing it tomorrow!

WILD has a great opening scene - she stops on the side of a cliff with a beautiful view and takes off her hiking boots, exposing bloody and blistered feet (ouch!) and then drops one of the boots over the edge of the cliff and watches it fall and fall and fall. If her feet were blistered before, imagine how bad they will be without shoes! That's how you write a first page! (I'd have loved to write HARRY - I'm always trying to pare down dialogue to the minimum and go for "pure cinema".)

Edwin - you're right about Mr. Vallee. He's been very prolific over the last few years. William - you're right...that's a really great opening scene.

Wild features an unexpectedly cool performance from the love W. Earl Brown (Deadwood, Black Mass). He's a nice man and one of our greatest character actors.
Just came back to Stage32 from watching Demolition...highly recommended!
