Submission of scripts / screenplays in festivals

Hi All. I am new to Stage 32, so kindly help me figure this out. I have completed a couple of short scripts and a TV Pilot script. I was hoping to submit them in festivals, however most of the festivals charge exorbitant fees for the same. As a beginner in this field, I am not yet sure if I should invest such high fees for submitting my scripts. It would be nice if someone could suggest wortwhile festivals where I can submit my scripts. Thanks in advance. Vishal

Stephen Barber

Hey, Sir. Regina Lee has some great input regarding your question/topic. Look for her and hit her up. We're lucky to have her here.

Matt Hurd

Hi Vishal! I'll second Stephen's suggestion - Regina is fantastic. I'll also suggest that one way to be sure you get your money's worth from contests is to get your script in the best shape possible before submitting it - that's where the Stage 32 Happy Writers services can help you. Most contests will either accept or reject your submission without feedback - but our writers' services get you feedback from working industry readers and executives: https://www.stage32.com/happy-writers/coverage?affid=MHW. Feel free to message me if you have questions, and best of luck!

What is it you are looking to achieve through submitting to festivals/competitions?

Pierre Langenegger

If you're a beginner to script writing then you are correct in your assumption, you will most likely waste your money by entering festivals/competitions. Seek out peer reviews until you feel you are good enough to start placing in those comps.

Craig D Griffiths

Contests (if you get judge feedback) are good. Yes they do cost, but they are not huge. The 'Page' gives good notes. Feedback is always hard to get.

Thank you all for the comments. @stephen Barber: thanks, will check out Regina Lee. @Matt Hurd: Thanks for the link. @Anthony Cawood: I wish to submit to festivals and get honest feedbacks on my scripts, which will further motivate me writing better and improved scripts, which I believe will take me one step further in my career. @Pierre Langenegger and Craig Griffiths: Thanks, noted.
