Anything Goes : Getting Involved by James Oden

Getting Involved

Greetings everyone! I'm located in Cincinnati, Ohio and I'm trying to get more involved in the film industry. I am currently a practicing screenwriter and I have been practicing for about seven or eight years now. I am trying to learn other skillsets in film as well to make myself more marketable (Sound, Editing, Animation, etc.)

I'm very open-minded, an excellent team player, and I am very passionate about film. I am looking for any possible opportunities that I can get to add credits to my name, learn more about the industry, and/or practice writing or learning new skills. If anyone is in the Cincinnati area, in Ohio at all, or willing to talk virtually, please reach out to me as I am seeking to dedicate myself to film and break into the industry.

I have a few finished scripts that are all pilots. I am currently working on two feature scripts of my own.

While working on those scripts I am also working a full-time job to support my family from 0800 to 1700 M-F.

As I mentioned before, I am married and a father of two (a newborn and a two year old).

I am also currently attending online school (Grand Canyon University). My major is Digital Film with an Emphasis on Screenwriting.

I'm free on weekends and weeknights after I have completed my homework.

If anyone is available to help a hardworking, dedicated, and passionate screenwriter break into the industry, learn some new skills, add some credits to my name, and get my name out there, please, don't hesitate to reach out to me on here or via email at james.d.oden@gmail.com. Thank you much and have a wonderful day!

Gotta become noticed...how? I can think of two ways (assuming u got no ties inside);

- win some major contest/fellowship (long path, many outdoor factors, etc...)

- make a short film outta your script (can be done anytime, 0 budget, you have a proof of concept even if you don't win any Film Festival, you can circulate it around at least for next 2-3 years...) Filmmakers mingle there, notice such films that stand out, then maybe someone will reach out...

Anyway you choose, you will have some concrete over your last paragraph of "hardworking, dedicated and passionate". If you're just after offering services, many will ask to see what have you done of abovementioned.
