Hi everyone! My name is Olivia, I am a screenwriter who has submitted work to the Stage32 Fantasy and Sci-Fi contest recently, as well as Screencraft and the Austin Film Festival (keeping my fingers crossed!). I have a BA in Performance Studies from Texas A&M University and an MFA in Creative Writing with a focus on Dramatic Writing from the University of Denver. I've introduced myself here before and have made great connections of fellow creatives where we swap scripts and give feedback, and I'm fortunate to receive an opportunity to work my first PA job in a few weeks. My icebreaker question is a little heavy so if you don't feel comfortable answering that's totallly fine. Are you currently living the life you want or are you living the life your parents want, and are they the same thing?

Great meeting you, and best wishes in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi contest! My specialty is writing features, particularly romantic comedies that mesh with my optimistic personality. (And yes, I'm currently living the life I want, and my parents - both of whom are no longer with me - would be happy that way.) Enjoy the screen life!

Hi, Olivia--I didn't realize that D.U. had a Creative Writing MFA where with a Dramatic Writing emphasis. I grew up in the suburbs--Northglenn until age 12, and what is now called Centennial (previously unincorporated Littleton) until age 18. I returned to Denver after undergrad and did theater and worked a shitty clerical job at RTD before moving to Seattle, and then to NYC for my own Dramatic Writing MFA from Tisch. And I am currently living the life I want, though I still want something else. Isn't that always the way? I have a supernatural thriller I'd love to get some insight on from someone who's fresh to the project. Perhaps we could exchange?

Nice to meet you, Olivia Drake! And you're right, dragons have backstories and feelings too. Congrats on your new PA opportunity. Hope it's fun.
IBQ: Happy to say, I'm living the life I want. That wasn't always the case, but that wasn't a bad thing either in many ways.
Have a great weekend!

Thank you for taking the time to reintroduce yourself to the community, Olivia Drake!
To answer your question, I think the life that I want is an always evolving thing. What I thought I wanted when I was younger, didn't always live up to my hopes and expectations once I got there. So I'm working on making healthier choices and adjusting my dreams to be a bit more grounded and rooted in things like happiness, love, family, what's better for my mental and physical health, etc. instead of just ambition, success, and accomplishment.

Nice to meet you. Best of luck with your contests. I'm a graduate of the University of Drama. :) Most of my scripts hinge on the Dramatic Adventure theme, although I have at least one in each of: Fantasy, Animation, Thriller, Horror, and Action. Keep rolling forward!

I'm chiming in a little late, but I agree with Ashley Renee Smith above reply. I'm still in filmmaking but my desires have changed as I matured. But all the experiences I had going the path of what I thoughted I wanted shifted from on-camera to behind the scenes and it's the best decision I've made. Good luck in your endeavors.
