Hello, all! I've been a member of Stage32 for several years now. Today, I can say that I'm an Award-winning screenwriter! I won the 2024 Iowa Motion Picture Association's Best Unproduced Screenplay (Under 20 Pages) for my short proof-of-concept script "Romance Cleanup in Aisle Five." I'm in the midst of applying for a grant to produce this single-location script myself. Ideally, I'd like to cast the film with local talent, but I might have to play my lead (an overweight contractor) myself. I'm interested in meeting other folks from Iowa or nearby western Illinois and northeastern Missouri who want to make movies.
I've become aware that I'm not naturally a conventional screenwriter, and I need to follow alternative ways of telling stories. I'd love to connect with people who are here to tell different kinds of stories and people who are interested in reading, writing, and producing unusual scripts. I've got a script that's similar to the movies "Moonlight" and Todd Haynes's "Poison" in that the script has three different segments and like the former, deals with the same two characters (a crusher and a crushee) at different times in their lives, but the three stories are different styles. It's inspired by the most intense unrequited love I had in my life, which has been a muse for several decades.

Hi Richard Morell - its great to meet you here during IYW! One of my greatest memories ever was playing pickup basketball on the University of Iowa court when I was in high school - basically learning the hard lesson that I would make a better producer than a shooting guard. MOONLIGHT and POISON are amazing films. Wishing you huge success with your project!
