I think (new myself here) that you can request connections with people. Also maybe look at the Lounge and get involved in discussions. As with the real world you need to make positive connections rather than expecting others to immediately offer you work. It is not a casting or project website (maybe look at Shooting People if that is what you are thinking) more of a connection between creatives which I think is far more elegant. Have fun!
I haven't had any problems connecting with people. You just have to be proactive and approach people. The more involved you become...the more people with see you and will want to interact. =0) Best of luck.
Hey guys...There are over 150,000 posts made on this site on a slow day, well over a quarter million on a busy day. That's just posts. Not network connections, likes, etc. Posts. On the right side of your wall, you will see a blue box with links to the GETTING STARTED and FAQ sections. I highly recommend reading these. The site has a ton of features and resources. These sections will lend insight into all of them. There are two mistakes people commonly make here. One is posting to their own wall when they hardly have any connections in their network. For example, if you have 7 people in you network and you make a post on your wall (with no Lounge discussion) your potential reach is 7 people. However, if you add a Lounge discussion, you will automatically reach every single person subscribed to that Lounge section (don't know how to subscribe to a Lounge discussion? Read the FAQ or press the ? on LOUNGE SUBSCRIPTIONS) as well as anyone else who ventures into that section of the Lounge. In short, the entire community. Andre, you have 24 people in your network. Most of your posts have been to your wall with no Lounge discussion. That gives you a potential audience of 24. Christopher, you have 22 people in your network. Most of your posts have been to your wall with no Lounge discussion. That gives you a potential audience of 22. Now, take these same posts and add a Lounge Discussion and, if your post is compelling, you'll see a response...guaranteed. But I do, once again, recommend reading the FAQ and GETTING STARTED sections. They're there to help. Hope this did as well.
One more little note. Projects looking for talent are under the PROJECTS section, accessible from the menu bar at the top. You can submit projects, follow projects, or speak directly to the project poster. Again, all this and more in the FAQ and GETTING STARTED sections. Thanks.
I found the more I enter the lounge and discuss and engage in the crowd... more and more people are requesting to add me and vice versa! This is really a great site to make connections... just go out there, we are all here waiting for you! :)
Thanks for posting, Kira. It's no coincidence that those who have had the most success on this site are the most active. Gotta be in it to win it and that means being visible, active, and selfless.
Well, I don't see much to draw folks in. No bio, no resume. Enrich your page, man. I try to put more things on mine several times a week. Of course, I have over a dozen complete screenplays. One got filmed.
Thank you, Randall. Great post. You can't just show up and think the world is going to recognize your incredible talent. You have to be visible, provide information (resumes, reels, loglines, etc), and participate.
I find that as I participate I get inspired - more people see me, get to know me. Many of the members that have connected with me are in my local area. I am now getting ready to try to pull them in and maybe get to work on projects together - (or just get a cup of coffee). This is a social media site geared toward creative persons... be social... get invovled... most of all have fun and meet new people... welcome!
Don't feel bad, Andre. People here are at varying degrees of experience and seriousness. I've got close working relations with some of the biggest people in the film business in several countries. Yet I still get occasional snubs and disses from a few folks here. Cory is right as per his form. Some people do what we call on Fussbook "farming friends"... it can waste a huge amount of your time
Bottom line, everyone has a different approach to networking. I've seen those to take the "carpet bomb the hillside approach" succeed just as well as those who take the "cherry picker" approach. Do what's comfortable for you. At the end of the day it's about your goals, the effort you put into pursuing them, and how you expose them to the world that matters.
