Don't usually post, but just re-watched American Graffiti by accident. Fireworks night and my dogs were freaked out by the loud noises. I had the film on the humax and put it on because of the loud soundtrack. Dang, that film is such a work of art. I forgot I had it as one of my desert island film choices, (I chose them as if I was literally going to be on a desert island,so picked films I could watch again and again). After this viewing, it has definitely earned its right to stay on the list. Great script, great acting, great directing, great cinematography, great styling, great soundtrack. I first watched it as a child and was in love with the character of John, played by Paul Le Mat.Now when I watch it that character seems rather sad because he's reached the top of his tree and is the best he can be. All that's left is down. The constant movement of the set up is genius, quite subversive but also so sweetly nostalgic. Now you'd just think, why are they all riding around with strangers? Are they nuts? Or worry how much petrol they're using. One last thing about desert island movie choices. Stage 32, can you put in a secondary lot of movie choices of life saver films - films you owe a debt of gratitude to for helping you through a time or were part of a defining moment in your life. I need somewhere to put Peggie Sue Got Married and Blue Velvet.
