CALL SIGN DRAGON
By Jamie Wingler

GENRE: Action
LOGLINE:

A North Korean orphan trained as a spy is planted in America and grows to become a decorated fighter pilot until she is called back to fulfill her obligation.

SYNOPSIS:

The North Korean government plucks Bai “Dragon” Loong from her family before the age of five. They send her to Russia where she attends the International Lenin School and learns trade craft and everything American. At ten, they plant her in Georgia with a mission; become a top military pilot, gain entry to the Navy’s Test Pilot School, and pass cutting edge technology back to North Korea. She nearly accomplishes her mission.

On the day she completes her final training on the F/A-18 Hornet, the Marine Corps. revokes her orders to the Test Pilot School. Instead, they order her to an operational squadron operating in the Sea of Japan. Upon arrival at her new squadron, Bai is immediately tasked to fly a sortie with the Carrier Airwing Commander (CAG). Within minutes after takeoff, CAG’s plane is shot down without warning by a MIG of unknown origin. Bai wings into action and when the dust settles, she has downed two MIG’s and sank an enemy surface vessel. Most suspect the North Koreans are behind the attack, but their leader vehemently denies any missing MIG’s.

Word of Bai’s exploits travels fast. Bai again finds herself traveling half-way around the world to Washington D.C. where she briefs the President and Joint Chiefs of Staff on the incident. She’s an instant celebrity and a favorite of the President. To aid Bai in navigating the numerous television interviews and press conferences that come with fame, the government assigns Bai an assistant, Shelley Kowalski, a Harvard Law Graduate and former grifter. Bai senses right away that there’s more to Shelley than being a personal assistant. Shelley’s in the spy game as well. Bai and Shelley become fast friends while on the road.

Not everyone is happy about Bai’s conquest. The North Korean’s had been planning the attack that Bai thwarted for two years. She receives a recall code from the Permanent Representative of North Korea to the U.N. but refuses to return to North Korea. She spills the beans and confesses her North Korean roots to American intelligence officers. As a faux gesture of goodwill, the North Koreans invite Bai on a public relations trip where she will become the first American to fly and land a North Korean aircraft aboard a Russian aircraft carrier. The intelligence officers think the trip is a great idea. Bai disagrees and contacts the North Koreans, informing them that she now accepts the recall.

Bai boards a Russian military transport for her return to North Korea. As Bai fears, her return does not go as planned. While on the transport, she’s drugged. When she wakes up, she’s tied to a chair in a North Korean hangar facing off with the General that planned the thwarted attack on the U.S. Carrier. The co-planner of the attack was the General’s brother who flew and died in one of the MIG’s shot down by Bai. The General forces Bai into an aerial showdown against him and another North Korean pilot.

Wounded in the battle, Bai fights off her attackers, downing the two North Korean MIG’s in the encounter. Bleeding profusely, Bai attempts to stay focused. She contacts the U.S. Carrier seeking assistance. But the fight’s not over. A top Russian pilot lies in wait, ready if the two North Koreans failed to destroy her. After a dogfight against the Russian, Bai emerges victorious. Upon orders from the President, she obtains clearance to land aboard the U.S. Carrier.

Bai recovers from her injuries and returns to the U.S. a hero – America’s first Ace since the Vietnam War. While Bai was away, Shelley was busy cleaning up loose ends. Bai learns from intelligence officers that the Permanent Representative of North Korea had been murdered. Bai convinces the intelligence officers that she had nothing to do with the murder. When she and Shelley reunite, Bai and Shelley discuss a few more loose ends.
