Emotion Whisperer’s cancer has returned during the pandemic. She decides she wants something she’s never had: A White Christmas.
SYNOPSIS:
Anthem Hayes has been told her cancer has returned. She knows her time may be running out. In her Charleston, SC home-office after a zoom session with her Life Training subscribers, she convinces assistant Tonya to go to Maine with her to have something she never had: A White Christmas.
Life shocks start as they arrive in Rockport arriving at “Esprit de Bois” and Edna’s Cabin, owned by reclusive artisan Jacob Calder. It is where owner Jacob lives in a barn behind the cabin. The cabin is resplendent with original regional art. Tonya instantly sees the primary female subject in the paintings has the exact same eyes as Anthem.
Jacob appears with his dog, Molly, to welcome them. Molly never leaves his side without his signal. Not this time. Jacob is caught off guard by Molly behavior at lying Anthem’s feet. When Jacob gets close, Anthem and he really see each other for the first time. It is a moment.
Jacob retires to the barn. His interaction is limited going forward as Anthem and Tonya, and his mystery gets revealed as the meet the locals who know bit of his story.
Anthem learns Calder’s Overlook one early morning after a fresh snowfall. Jacob and Molly discover Anthem twirling in a vortex of snow at his beloved overlook. Shortly after their meeting, Molly is attacked by a wild animal during this first social meeting. Jacob has to put Molly down, and falls into a deep depression.
During the following period Anthem and Tonya begin to learn more of the lore of Jacob and Edna through an art gallery owner, his doctor, and the town’s art curator.
Tonya breaks off a relationship with a man back in Charleston, but meets Ketchem at the harbor in Rockport. He becomes a new diversion for her.
Anthem has been mentoring Tonya in their Life Training business and decides it is time for Tonya to conduct one on her own. During Tonya’s session, she chooses a participant to talk about the mental and physical pain she is experiencing.
Most of the Jacob story seems to be coming together for Anthem and Tonya as they travel to Bangor. Jacob has finally come out of his depressive funk with a little push with an axe by Anthem.
While they women are in Bangor, an out-of-state cop shows up at “Esprit de Bois” intending to kill Tonya. Jacob has a unique security system in his barn which alerts him there is an intruder. Jacob confronts the man on the front porch of the cabin and mortally shoots him.
Everything is set for a special Christmas Eve dinner and reveal for Anthem, Tonya, and Jacob, and the opening of two special presents on Anthem’s White Christmas morning.
It’s a holiday season of the unexpected all for the want of a White Christmas.
