I like the idea here...definitely see a lot of possibilities with the paranoia humor and how every little thing can look huge when tossed into a completely alien context. My only concern would be the length of time since 9/11 (not that the emotions aren't still there). Maybe there is something more recent (even a made up event) that could serve to activate her paranoia. (Hope this suggestion isn't considered out of line.)
