DROP ZONE ZULU
By Joseph D. Wulczynski

GENRE: Horror, War
LOGLINE:

“Two years after the zombie apocalypse began; they dropped us into the middle.  We didn’t care.  We were bringing the fight to the enemy.”

SYNOPSIS:

Two years after the zombie apocalypse begins, the eastern side of the United States has been brought under control and a majority of the creatures destroyed. An advisor to the United States President had evaluated a situation that began on the western side of the nation and convinced the President that a wall needed to be built and a certain protocol put in place. Working 24/7 the wall was erected separating the west from the east, and portions of Canada and Mexico. The world is engulfed in a zombie apocalypse with only a few major sections under the control of the living. The western half of the country struggles to survive feeling that they have been deserted by their government and fellow Americans.

The advisor convinces the President on an agenda to take back the country from the living dead. The U.S. Army begins training and equipping airborne soldiers. Designated the 3/73 Rapid Zombie Force of the 82nd ABN Division, each platoon consists of 30 soldiers, including specialists in fields needed to assist and get the country back on its feet. Each soldier is equipped with special clothing designed to deny zombies a grasp and somewhat resistant to a zombie bite. Special weapons are also designed; the Striker is a long metal object designed to enter the creatures' brain cavity and the Zombie Automatic Weapon is a spray and pray device. The ZAG magazine holds 1,000 titanium pellets which are forced down the barrel by C02, enabling soldiers to "spray and pray" when overrun by a zombie horde. The units are also issued special emitters that sound like babies and are used to distract the zombies. Supporting the airborne units are two battle groups of naval forces off the western coast designed for the special needs of the units on the ground.

The plan designates twenty-six drop zones on the western half and each unit is given a designation of the military's phonetic alphabet. A central command on the eastern side of the wall oversees the 26 units and the naval task force. The mission of the 26 units, is to deploy into zombie territory, consolidate and secure an area, contact and coordinate with the local civilian populace, consolidate resources and manpower to establish a larger base of operations, conduct search and destroy missions coordinated with the US Air Force, engage mass targets in open areas, meet deadlines in expanding bases of operation, and take our world back. Each platoon is given supplies to last for one month.

3rd Platoon Delta Troop 3/73 RZF parachutes into drop zone Zulu in Eastern Washington on the outskirts of the Colville National Forest. The drop is uneventful and the platoon moves to a small hill to establish a base camp. Finding survivors the platoon begins to coordinate with the local leadership in an attempt to free the area of the zombie population.
