THE GRANNY WARS
By Mary Huckstep

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

Two feuding grandmas fight the only way they know how - over a man - until their liberated granddaughters decide to teach their sexist grannies that a woman does not need a man to make her happy. (Or does she?)

SYNOPSIS:

In this broad comedy, plain-jane PATTY (60s) has a predictable life and likes it that way... until her arch enemy from the past, sexy-flirty ROSE (60s), moves in next door. And the old gals pick up where they left off, fighting over a man - and this time, it's Patty's longtime neighbor, STERLING (60s). Soon, they pull their granddaughters into the fray - Patty's flirty-sexy granddaughter CANDY (20) and Rose's plain-jane granddaughter, RUTH (24), whom they both introduce to Sterling's son, hunky LANCE (30), who's also just moved into the neighborhood. A rich widower, Lance needs a wife, and soon. Otherwise he'd better get a whip and a chair to help raise his wild-child DOLLY (4) whom he has spoiled rotten, since her mama died. Both Patty and Rose believe their granddaughters are the answers to everything Lance needs - and offers. After all, he's "Prince Charming with credit cards."

The two love triangles - Patty-Stirling-Rose, and Candy-Lance-Ruth - create havoc and high jinx, until Candy and Ruth get fed up with their grannies' sexism, and decide to teach the old gals a lesson: A woman does not need a man to make her happy! The girls recruit Lance to help them make their point, and stage some phony love scenes, meant to show the grannies "a more excellent way."

The phony love scenes backfire and the old gals fear that their granddaughters are about to be kidnapped by white slave traders. United in fear and love for their progeny, the old gals dash off together to rescue their girls from certain doom - on the night a freak storm dumps torrential rains on rain-starved southern California. Despite their heroic efforts to intervene, Patty and Rose get caught up in a flash flood and prepare to meet their Maker. First, Rose confesses that the fiance she stole from Patty decades ago was a real jerk and left her right after their baby was born. Then Patty apologizes to Rose for hating her all that time and speaking trash about her to anyone who'd listen. Repentant, the old gals prepare to die together, when a rescue team pulls them back from the brink (literally), then takes the grannies to the ER - where they meet their granddaughters, Lance, and Candy's long lost Boyfriend!

In a surprise denouement, Candy and Ruth both end up marrying men they want and need - while the old gals decide to take a permanent vacation from men. After all, a woman doesn't need a man to make her happy. (Does she?)
