GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a skilled family of oddball grifters, on the run from the mob, hide out in a tiny border town, they’re forced to take on alter-egos and quickly find they’re not the only ones with the skill to scam.

SYNOPSIS:

A family of grifters are on the run from the Greek mob after narrowly escaping a fumbled jewelry heist. They find refuge in the town of Ding-a-Ligne, that sits on the border of Quebec and Ontario and known for the chocolate snack cake, the Ding-a-Ling.DAN, (30’s, Jack Black type) a long time grifter, is always looking for the next scheme for his family but maybe it’s time to settle down. Along for the wild ride are his equally shifty wife DEBBIE (30’s, Awkwafina type) and their temperamental tech savvy son SPIKE (15, Lance Lim type).

Their car breaks down outside of town but a local goofball police officer kindly leads them into the rural community. ROY and LeROY, gay owners of the Liberace inspired bed and breakfast, discover Dan and Debbie share the same last name (albeit with fake ID) as the Ding-a-ling factory owner and mistakes Dan for his sole heir and long lost nephew. Dan and Debbie go along with it. They’re then faced with the tough decision to stay until the dust settles or keep moving. The town mechanic informs them it may be a while before their vehicle parts come in.

With a plan in mind, Dan and Debbie have no choice but to stay and decide to go meet their supposed long lost relative WALTER, a feisty Scotsman who just happens to be on his last legs. Literally, he’s had two limb transplants and they never took. Walter greets his long lost nephew with open arms and surprisingly, promises to leave it all to him, but with shady intentions. Who’s grifting who?appears to be a prosperous and efficiently run factory, makes Dan think he’s hit the jackpot! Their son Spike can finally have a “normal” life. They come face to face with town busybody and factory floor manager, MIZIE. “Meddling Mizie” has her suspicions and her scheme to take over the factory has potentially been foiled.

“The truth will out!”

As Debbie and Dan ready to take the reins of the factory, Walter mysteriously disappears. This leaves the angry anglophones and frothy francophone workers disgruntled and abandoned, sans leadership. Panic sets in for Dan and Debbie but they’re in their element. They quickly take on management of the place and turn every grift, scam and scheme they can drum up to divert the mob, bring the community together and reap the rewards of what will hopefully be the Ding-a-ling capital of the world! Let them eat cake!

Heads quickly turn when the Greek mob slides into town on a rampage of revenge determined to retrieve their missing diamond necklace.

There’s definitely no shortage of dingalings in Ding-a-Ligne!
