A young mixed-race woman named from a country town runs away from her small-time criminal family to the bright lights of New York City to realize her dream of becoming a top beauty queen.

SYNOPSIS:

Confessions of a Beauty Queen is based on the real-life story of nineteen-year-old Roxy, who in the 1960’s travelled alone from small-town Mattoon Illinois to New York City to become a successful, model and commercial actress. Throughout her journey she experiences the highs and lows of the ruthless competition of the New York fashion industry and beauty queen circuits, and successfully navigates all the obstacles put before her including crossing color barriers, to win several titles on her quest to win the ultimate competition - Miss America.

Roxy watches those around her - both close friends and foes - rise and fall by sabotaging each other, as she makes her way while naively but successfully overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles. While dodging the attempts of her criminal family to bring her back home to their way of life, she wins all \all the major beauty queen titles in New York, but on the cusp of becoming Miss New York on her way to Miss America, she decides to abandon her quest for the top title to get married, only to discover that her fiancé - who she dated throughout her rise to fame - was behind many of the mishaps and incidents that positioned her rise to the top.
