There comes a point in every creator’s journey where the weight of it all feels unbearable. You’ve poured time, energy, and your very soul into a project, only to be met with roadblocks, failures, and moments where quitting seems like the most logical option. The world doesn’t see the sleepless nights, the doubts, the financial strain, the countless rejections. But you do. And that’s exactly why you have to keep going.

The Breaking Point is the Turning Point

The projects that matter most are the ones that test you the hardest. They demand everything from you, strip away comfort, and leave you standing at the edge, questioning if you have anything left to give. But here’s the truth: the breaking point is often the turning point. The moment where you want to walk away is the exact moment you need to push forward. Because most people quit. And that’s why most people never see their dreams through.

Every creative legend, every groundbreaking entrepreneur, every revolutionary thinker has stood in the place where you are now, on the verge of giving up. What separates those who make it from those who don’t is the ability to keep going despite the odds. When everything is pushing against you, push back harder.

When Everything is Against YouCreate Anyway

Adapt. Adjust. Advance.

Success isn’t about avoiding struggle, it’s about maneuvering through it. When obstacles arise, your job isn’t to surrender; it’s to adapt. Here’s how:

Detach from the Vision, Own the Mission

Your project will evolve, and that’s okay. Don’t get so attached to the original idea that you resist necessary change. The mission is what matters; the execution can shift.

Use Setbacks as Proof You’re on the Right Path

Resistance is a sign you’re working on something real. No one ever disrupted the world by taking an easy road.

Fall in Love with the Fight

If you only want the result and hate the process, you won’t last. Find purpose in the struggle. Let it fuel you.

Cultivate Resilience Over Motivation

Motivation fades. Resilience doesn’t. Build the discipline to work, even when you don’t feel like it.

Be Ruthless About Progress

Even on your worst days, do something—anything—to move forward. A single step is still momentum.

When Everything is Against YouCreate Anyway

The Only Way is Through

No one is coming to save you. No magic moment will make it all click. The only way forward is to create through the chaos, through the exhaustion, and through the uncertainty. Because when your project is finished, no one will ask how hard it was. They’ll only see that you did it.

You will be overlooked. You will be doubted. You will face rejection, criticism, and moments where it seems like you’re shouting into the void. But none of that matters if you keep going. Because success isn’t about who starts, it’s about who refuses to stop.

There will be moments where exhaustion settles into your bones, where the weight of self-doubt makes every step feel impossible. But that’s exactly where breakthroughs happen. The battle of creation isn’t won in the moments of inspiration; it’s won in the trenches of persistence. Keep showing up. Keep refining. Keep pressing forward even when it feels like nothing is working. Because every step forward, no matter how small, is a declaration that you are not done yet.

When Everything is Against YouCreate Anyway

The Reward of Perseverance

Every challenge you face is shaping you into a person capable of finishing what you started. The late nights, the sacrifices, the pivots, the moments of self-doubt- they are all part of your story. And one day, when you look back, you won’t remember the struggle as much as the satisfaction of knowing you didn’t give up when it mattered most.

Success isn’t instant. It’s built brick by brick, day by day, in the face of failure, setbacks, and everything telling you to stop. You are in the process of becoming someone who finishes, someone who sees their vision through, someone who defies the odds. And that’s something most people will never do.

So keep building. Keep fighting. Keep creating. The world needs what you’re making.

And when you finally bring your vision to life, you’ll realize that every hard moment, every sacrifice, every reason you almost quit was exactly what made it all worth it. Because in the end, you didn’t just create something; you proved to yourself that you could.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's the things we all know, but it's really nice to be reminded of them from time to time.

Excellent article and advice for any creative working hard to bring their dreams to reality. It is so easy to get caught up in the negatives and focus on the brick walls you face (and there will be many). However, there’s a reason you’ve gotten this far. Keep pushing and pursuing your dream even when you face resistance. Be willing to learn and grow. Stay open to feedback and be ready to course correct. Persevere and dig in. These moments are preparing you for something bigger. Press onward!

Samuel, thank you so DOGGONE much for the blog! I already quit the journey once (1994, after 14 years of trying to break into screenwriting and TV writing) because I heard too many people tell me to get a "real job." Since jumping back in during 2016, I've made it up in my mind to stick with it...this is my FUN. I'm going to keep plugging away...despite one person on social media telling me my stay here on Stage 32 (proud member since January 2019) has been a waste of time. For me, it's the journey that counts. And as long as it's fun, I'm happy with it. Glad you're here on 32!

You're correct, time and other blockades are against our projects but the only thing or one that can prevent us from succeeding is ourselves if we doubt most likely. My company has an IP or Intellectual property, a Fantasy/Horror/Comedy short film proof of concept in Development still since 2015 when I wrote it for Crowdfunding. You might say it's in Development Hell. It's called LUNCH (working title) https://facebook.com/lunchthemovie/

Hey Thanks, Samuel. Yeah, it has been an uphill battle but like you say, I'm going to keep trudging on or forward until the picture or intellectual property is in the can and in the public's eye. Oooohhhh yeah, I'm dedicated all right, but I haven't found a dedicated team or Crew yet? Samuel, I really like your idea of engaging with an audience with a forum to generate buzz with fans. But I have showed regular updates in the beginning when the film was still fresh in 2015-2017, and I've got plans of hiring someone for behind-the-scenes footage and photography when we acquire capital to move into Preproduction. But love that idea of a strong, dedicated fan base that will propel the project into hyperdrive. Hey, Thank you, Samuel, much appreciated.

You’re right—time and obstacles can be tough, but self-doubt is the real enemy. LUNCH has been in development since 2015, which shows your dedication. Now, focus on building your community. Engage your audience with regular updates, behind-the-scenes content, and sneak peeks. Create a space for fans to connect—like a Discord or forum—and involve them in the journey. A strong, dedicated fanbase can help propel your project forward and generate the buzz needed to move past development hell. Keep pushing forward; your perseverance will pay off!

You wrote something major. You caught the essence of being creative. I'm keeping this and sharing it with my friends. I've published two books and wrote two screenplays. The first book sold about four hundred, the second not so much due to lack of time and resources. I'm nearly done with a third book, but the challenge has been tremendous. The same can be said for my wife who's an artist. About once every three months she wants to give up, but she keeps on producing beautiful work.

Hi Samuel. Yours words came at exactly the right time. Reading them and reading some of the comments gave me comfort. I think it’s around knowing this point is part of the process, it is ‘normal’ and thus I’m not alone with my feelings. I wonder what you think about sometimes not continuing to push but letting go a bit which is different from giving up? I’m wondering about that as a way to rest and come back re-energised

Fantastic blog, Samuel! Thanks for sharing it. “The projects that matter most are the ones that test you the hardest. They demand everything from you, strip away comfort, and leave you standing at the edge, questioning if you have anything left to give.” You’re right. I’ve had those projects, and I’ve been working on some of them for a while. Piece by piece I’m getting them done.

Samuel, this is an incredibly powerful and timely message. Your words are both a rallying cry and a steady hand on the shoulder for every creative who’s ever felt on the verge of giving up. I especially resonated with the reminder that the breaking point is often the turning point. So much growth happens when we refuse to quit. Thank you for reminding us that it’s not about avoiding the hard days; it’s about continuing through them with intention, clarity, and heart.

Thank you so much for these kind and deeply encouraging words. It means a lot to know the message resonated with you in that way. I truly believe that creatives carry a quiet resilience that often goes unnoticed, and it’s in those moments—right on the edge—where something powerful begins to shift. I’m grateful we get to walk this path together, even from afar, reminding each other to keep going with heart, purpose, and hope
