Screenwriting : Written Pitch by Steve Sherman

Written Pitch

Has anybody submitted written pitches? I have submitted several times on two different SPs and gotten some decent feedback. What suggestions can you offer to help get your work requested?

Dan MaxXx

how about attaching/referring a NAME (known or rising Talent) on the pitch doc, like in the first sentence so strangers (Reps and Bosses) immediately pay attention? "Hi Big Shot Rep/Producer/Gate Keeper, actor XXXXX is interested playing the hero character of my screenplay, XXXXXXX?"

I'm a nobody and I've sent blind unsolicited queries to owners/bosses at Cartel, Circle of Confusion, Bellevue, Madhouse/Lit, Bender-Spink/Good Fear, UTA agency.... some replied back, "send script." No fuss.

This suggestion only works if you got Talent on board, have their blessing to use their clout/name.

I've sent one here and it was requested. I selected the manager based on her prior work and interests so that definitely helped. However, I do query a lot and end up getting read requests. Your pitch may be fine - as you probably know you can't base it on just 2 feedbacks. Just rework it and you'll know you have it when you get responses. Let your true writing style and voice shine through in the pitch. Don't overhtink it. But also overthink it so it's clear and concise ;)

I sent two in — I put the logline up front... it basically mirrored the verbal pitch.

Hi Dan MaxXx you said"This suggestion only works if you got Talent on board, have their blessing to use their clout/name."

How did you manage to get talent on board?

Steve Sherman

Jason, Thank you for the reply I will get with Nick.

Steve Sherman

Hi Nick, Thank you reaching out. I will email at writerhelp. Thanks again.

Dan MaxXx

Steve Sherman I asked. We can't do this alone. Gotta find your own tribe, your own contacts & friends.
