Screenwriting : ISA - International Screenwriters' Association, experience? by Christiane Lange

ISA - International Screenwriters' Association, experience?

Is anyone a member of ISA or have you used the site for something?

It seems pretty ok, and also a bit more international than many other sites focused almost solely on the US.

Would be interested in people's opinions pro/con.

I’ve been subscribed to it for about six months. They do post plenty of gigs but not many in the genre I write (comedy). Most gigs seem legit, I’ve seen a few that don’t. If you’re looking to get into more competitions, they also offer discounts for several. So yeah, “okay” is how I would describe them.

Thanks Andrew, that sounds pretty close to my impression so far. I responded to one gig so far, because it seemed to fit with a project already in my drawer. We'll see what, if anything, happens.

I think they do OK with podcasting IRRC...

Christiane, I'm an ISA Connect member; joined up this past April. Through ISA, I've been able to submit seven screenplays to producers...and, like Andrew, I'm into writing comedies.

Haven't made a sale yet...but I'm glad for the opportunity to make submissions through ISA.

Thanks for posting, Christiane! Wishing you all the VERY BEST!

Christiane Lange

Jim, good to know. They do seem to offer decent bang for your buck. Wishing you a sale soon! :)

Well, it is only $10 a month, rather than the $40 a month for the Writers' Room here. And it's way cheaper than InkTip's logline listing services.

It really comes down to how widely-read by industry pros the various websites are.

But then again, these are all attempts to shortcut the process. But there are no shortcuts - we either pay in time (the marathon of building connections/relationships) or in money, or both. I prefer to take the time, rather than throw more money away.

Hey Christiane Lange great question. I agree with Gabriel Marinho that here our members seem to have more meaningful interactions with executives who continue to follow their progress and stay in touch long after the consultation or coverage is delivered. Speaking of the Writers' Room, the value is definitely in the guests that we bring in to interact directly with our Writers' Room members. We've had Oscar-nominated writer Meg LeFauve, Billion-dollar producer Amy Baer and AKEELAH AND THE BEE Filmmaker Doug Atchison all interact directly with our members (who are based all over the world). And the interactions are meaningful.

Amy for instance gave every Writers' Room member the names and contact information for the managers she thinks are great to launch writers' careers. Only our members saw that list. This month I am bringing in a Development Exec with a Universal Pictures deal and a former Pixar writer to the Writers' Room. I may be biased but that level of industry accessibility is If you would like to get involved, send me an email and I'll give you a free month to check it out! j.mirch@stage32.com
