What authors/books affected you and woke you up to the world of screenwriting?

I'm not only being curious, but hope your answers may bring me a new wave of inspiration. My game-changing authors/books are: CARLOS CASTANEDA / THE TEACHINGS OF DON JUAN and ROBERT MONROE / JOURNEYS OUT OF THE BODY

Peace to All and stay safe fellow writers!

As a child I read Death in Venice (Thomas Mann) many times, and had a clear visual of the story. I was reluctant to see the film (Visconti), thinking that a film could not possibly incorporate all the parts of the story or deliver visuals to match my imagination. I was wrong about that, and that sparked my interest in film.

Bille August accomplished a similar feat with Babette's Feast, another book I knew almost by heart from childhood.
