Introduce Yourself : A Screenwriter's Reintroduction by Richard Hohenrath

A Screenwriter's Reintroduction

Greetings Stage 32 ... I've been a member for several years now, and it's great to reconnect with you all. I''ve written several scripts in multiple genres, though I tend to favor writing in the sci-fi, fantasy and supernatural genres. Mostly features and shorts in the past. Though recently I've started to expand into TV writing, and I've written my first animation feature with a co-writer. And I surprised myself how much I enjoyed writing in animation.

Often times I've visited the Stage 32 lounge ... not so much to raise a question of query, but to see what my contemporaries are working on, or what inspires them. It always interests me to read about writers from different walks of life. What drives them. What fuels their passion. Even though the business side of screenwriting can be frustrating at times, I truly love the creative process. To see the flicker of an idea become a finished script. And to anticipate what I might be writing next. I love the challenge.

And writing has definitely gotten me through some tough and challenging times of my own in life. It's been nearly three years since I lost my brother, who died due to injuries related to a car accident. Not a day goes by where I don't think of him, or miss him. Even though he wasn't a writer, we loved to talk film. We grew up on film. That was our bond. We talked about our favorites -- favorite lines, characters, genres whatever. Or talk about our favorite film franchises. What was working in those films and what wasn't ... But all I have of him now are good memories of those times. And that's what fuels me creativity. Partially to honor him, but also to create content that we both would have love to have seen onscreen. To me that's a small way of keeping him alive in my heart.

So I commend all you writers, artists and creators who are following your own dreams. I have a lot of respect for your dedication and discipline to your craft. I hope you all realize your dreams, whatever they may be. So if I've met some of you creators before, hello again ...And if we haven't ... it's great to meet you. :)

Good to meet you, Richard Hohenrath! You're in good company - lots of SciFi/Fantasy writers here! Who or what would you say is your biggest influence?

You may have already discovered the Screenwriting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/screenwriting), but definitely reach out on the Acting Lounge (https://www.stage32.com/lounge/acting) for insight into characters, dialogue, and even when you want to generate interest in a virtual table read!

Keep in mind that these lounges are like the VIP Filmmaker's Lounges at Film Festivals, so this is where you can meet the people doing the work, get advice on anything you're working on, and/or give back to those who may need advice. We're a very supportive and encouraging community! I think you'd also enjoy my blog post on how to get the most out of the Stage32 Community:

Enjoy exploring the lounges, and don't forget to comment and respond to others’ posts, too! It's the best way to really connect!

Thank you, Karen, for reaching out, and for providing the additional links. Yes, the Stage 32 lounges are a good place to meet and share with other creators ... As for influences, there are many. But I would have to say Steven Spielberg is the greatest influence.

Richard, I am so so so happy to meet you. And I'll tell you that for as much as I need to tell stories for my own heart and my own happiness, I find myself doing it just as much to honor the folks that I love deeply and will never get a chance to share a story to their face again. I get that. And I know that we don't know each other, but I have every confidence that you're making your brother exceptionally proud.

Happy to have you here :)

Hi, Angela. Thank you so much for your kind response. I know there are many other writers/artists out there that share similar experiences, and cherish the memories of loved ones in their hearts. I really try to channel all of that emotion into something positive, constructive and creative. And it continually inspires me to forge ahead in this journey ... It's wonderful to meet you as well. My very best to you. :)
