Verbal pitch experience

Hello,

Yesterday, I had my first ever verbal pitch and wanted to share my experience with you.

It was quite hard for me to pitch a feature film within 5-6 minutes, especially as English is not my mother tongue. I went through the Stage32 pitching guide and practiced a few times before going into the actual pitch, which was helpful.

I managed to say what I wanted to say, but I sure didn't sound professional. In the end, the executive said, she didn't have anymore question because the pitch was quite thorough, which I guess translates to a mighty pass, Yet, I recommend doing this at least once or twice for the experience and for improving your skills. She also said my story was unique and appeals to people, but again I'm not sure if this was just courtesy.

The call arrived 10 minutes later than scheduled, so please wait for it. :-)

I'd love to hear about your own live-pitching experience, so feel free to tell me.

Regards from Germany

Doing pitches are just too nerve-wrecking for me. Even after I practice, I still feel like I sounded like an idiot. It is impossible for me to discuss an idea in 5/6 minutes

. I have done my last pitch. I am going to have to find a different avenue to get my work out there.

I wish you well for your future pitches.

Victor Ramon Mojica

I'm not ready for a live pitch especially failing with my written pitches, but I admire your attempt and wish you all the best!

Hi Till, sounds like you had a great learning experience here - thank you for sharing, I hope it'll give others some motivation to try it out too!

Thanks for the tip, Till ("Yet, I recommend doing this at least once or twice for the experience and for improving your skills."). I haven't done a verbal pitch on Stage 32 yet. I have done written pitches.

Vikki and Victor, if you look at verbal pitching like a conversation (like you're just telling a friend about your project), it might help.

Denise Cruz-Castino

Hey good for you for even taking the pitch. The more you practice the better you'll get at it. It's not about if you sell it, it's really the experience. Once you're a pro at it then you can start to find the right audience to sell it to.

Thank you all for commenting on this. I got back my feedback and attached it as a screenshot, so you can have a look at the process.

In the end, it was a pass, but not a terrible one. :-) As I feel encouraged to try again, I hope to get this feeling through to you as well.

If you like, keep me posted once in a while how things are going.

Best

I get what you're saying Till! For everyone who's not an english native speaker, like ourselves, it's always more difficult. We'll make it no matter what, thanks for sharing your experience! :)
