Introduce Yourself : Hello by Ed Hartman

Ed Hartman

Hello

I'm happy to be in touch with fellow media composers. I am a composer, percussionist, educator, producer, director, and now screenwriter. It's been a crazy journey and continues to evolve.

As a composer, I've worked on features, shorts, docs, etc. I have built up a decent YT channel over the years, and teach music licensing. I have a free newsletter (10 years!), and have free resources on my website. (email is best

I am working on a screenplay with a WGA screenwriter and will start pitching to the industry in 2023. The film is based on a filmmaker who made 9 films before he was 20 years old and went on to work for Disney and direct an Academy Award Winning film. I scored and produced "As the Earth Turns" in 2019. That film is in distribution (Amazon, Tubi, etc.) and has been on Turner Classic Movies, including Halloween 2021).

I wrote a blog for the backstory to that film (https://www.stage32.com/blog/the-magic-of-networking-you-never-know-wher...)

There are other blogs, including music licensing vs. scoring (https://www.stage32.com/blog/music-licensing-vs-music-scoring-2304) and submitting to festivals (make your OWN films, and go to festivals to meet directors!) (https://www.stage32.com/blog/an-indie-filmmakers-guide-to-film-festival-...)

Thinking (and BEING) a producer opens doors. Most artists, in general, are tribal. If you go to a networking event, you will likely hang out with other musicians. (I know, I've done it). You will miss the golden opportunity to meet filmmakers. Get out of your tribe, be bold, and produce. Simple YT videos, along with Imovie, etc. are a great way to start. You will be surprised at what you come up with, and where it takes you! Happy Holidays and have a wonderful 2023!
