Screenwriting : Mix 'Em! (Movie Idea Exercise) by Maurice Vaughan

Mix 'Em! (Movie Idea Exercise)

Mix two movies to come up with a new idea.

Example: "John Wick" mixed with "Alice in Wonderland" (2010). A movie about an ex-hitman in a fantasy world who comes out of retirement to assassinate an evil queen that killed people important to him, saving the kingdom in the process. A wild Action/Fantasy/Revenge movie.

You're welcome to post what you come up with or keep it to yourself if you plan on turning the idea into a script.

Sydney Summers

Ahh I love this!!!

Rachel Troche

oooooo this could be super fun!

Maurice Vaughan

Glad you love the exercise, Sydney Summers. The possibilities for ideas are endless.

Maurice Vaughan

Hope so, Rachel Troche. I wanted to post a quick, fun exercise for writers to do going into the weekend. I had fun thinking of the "John Wick"/"Alice in Wonderland" idea.

Lucie Mayer-Wegelin

The Proposal (2009) mixed with Paul (2011). A movie about two friends who decide to marry but are not prepared for an out-of-space guest to arrive at their wedding.

A funny and hilarious Comedy/Romance movie.

Enjoy the show while you imagine it.

Maurice Vaughan

I'd watch that movie, Lucie Mayer-Wegelin!

Marcel Nault Jr.

Saw (2004) meets The Avengers (2012):

A movie about a moral-preaching serial killer who targets people with "special skills" drastically changes the landscape of New York City. Our heroes are on burrowed time...

David Lee Melton

Maurice , Iā€™ve got somethings in mind lol

Wow! What a concept, Marcel Nault Jr.!

Maurice Vaughan

Ok, cool, David Lee Melton.

"Wick in Wonderland." Fantastic title!

Laura M. Kemp

Derrick Vernon

Maurice Vaughan here's my finished script. Drama Genre Based on a true story of my cousin passing and events in my life. The Last Supper Part 1.

Abeeha Alam

Jaws (1975) mixed with Silence of the Lambs (1991). A shark attack is not the only thing that's unsafe about the beaches of Amity; an escaped killer is prowling the town as well!

I have no idea what I would call this mash-up.

Maurice Vaughan

I don't know what the title would be, but that's an incredible mix, Abeeha Alam!

Maurice Vaughan

Congratulations on finishing your script, Derrick Vernon! My condolences to you and your family.

The link to your script isn't opening. Also, I suggest posting the link in the Your Stage Lounge instead of on a member's post because it's promotion and it might take away from the main conversation that's going on in the post.

Abeeha Alam

Thanks, Maurice Vaughan!

Maurice Vaughan

You're welcome, Abeeha Alam.

Rutger Oosterhoff

"Jaws" meets "Analyze This"

ANLALYZE FISH

A greedy Dolphin Shrink has second thoughts when--after Great White Padrino offers him a million clams to manipulate a depressed Loan Shark into committing suicide--he develops a friendship with his patient.

Patricia White

Great Harold improv. idea.

Maurice Vaughan

I remember your script "Analyze Fish," Rutger Oosterhoff. Did you come up with that idea by mixing those two movies, or did you figure out your script was a mix of those movies later on?

Dan MaxXx

You can run this process through AI software and it will output hundreds of catchy loglines & synopsis. Still adds up to zero 'cause the idea involves lots of human time to make- if ppl are serious.

Pat Savage

The possibilities for ideas are endless.

Rutger Oosterhoff

Haha Maurice. You remember my logline from the logline section. Sadly there was never a script. How I came up with it, I probably got from the title Analyze This to Analyze Fish, then the rest was easy. I must say it didn't come out of nowhere. I did a lot of "Analyze" "This" and "That".

Rutger Oosterhoff

Feading all the info of the old (2016) logline into ChattGPT it came up with:

"In 'Analyze Fish,' a greedy Dolphin Shrink initially agrees to manipulate a depressed Loan Shark into committing suicide for a million clams offered by the Great White Padrino, but has second thoughts when he develops an unexpected friendship with his patient, leading to a heartwarming journey of self-discovery and redemption amidst the perilous waters of their underwater world."

Derrick Vernon

The Hunt:

After witnessing the brutal murder of his family during a camping trip, lonely teenage boy Malachi discovers a mysterious black stone that transports him to an imaginary world. There, he gains the ability to transform into an S-Ranking Hunter, determined to track down and confront the killers responsible for his family's demise, all while grappling with his newfound powers and the specter of his past.

Maurice Vaughan

What two movies is "The Hunt" a mix of, Derrick Vernon?
