SYNOPSIS:
Set in Ireland just after the fall of Drogheda in 1649. Two young Irish girls get caught-up in a web of greed and deceit when they are put on trial for witchcraft.Their accuser is an English officer who is using the accusations to subjugate the local people and seize their lands for himself.The local people suspect the girls are innocent but they are powerless to save them, as Cromwell's troops have garrisoned the area.The parish priest stands-up for the girls and finds himself joining them on trial. They are tortured and humiliated for the perverse pleasure of the soldiers.One young rebel, desperate to protect his sweetheart, turns to a band of Irish rebels in the hope they will intervene.The verdict is inevitable - Guilty of Witchcraft and Murder. So is the sentence - Death by burning.On the day of sentencing, the rebels eventually come to the aid of the villagers and attack the English troops. They must fight their way through the battle-hardened troops of Cromwell's New Model Army to reach the victims and rescue them before it is too late.
