TROUBADOUR - EPISODE 1, "AWAKEN"

TROUBADOUR - EPISODE 1, "AWAKEN"
By John Richard Sullivan

GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

They are an alien race, awaking on a vast City-Ship in space, with no knowledge of who they are, where they are from, or where they are going.

SYNOPSIS:

In this first episode, three hundred members of an alien race awaken from stasis on a large city-ship, each with selective amnesia. They don’t know who they are or where they come from. They are informed by pre-recorded message that the details of their mission will be relayed to them upon their arrival at their destination; that their ship is automated and their course pre-set. But, gradually, their innate curiosity gets the better of them, and they begin to take control of their environment -- and, perhaps, through dreams, learn more about themselves and the lives they've left behind. Hey there, John! This is a solid and fun tagline, for sure, but not quite a logline. You'll want to spell out what is happening in the film that much more than you would a tagline, and the trick of it is that you'll have to do so in max two sentences. The formula "protagonist+inciting incident+obstacles+stakes" is an incredibly helpful one to bear in mind.

So for example:

"A self-indulgent and vain publishing magnate finds his privileged life upended after a vehicular accident with a resentful lover."

I hope that this is helpful!

Angela Cristantello Thanks, Angela! The logline thing has always been a bit confusing for me. I'll go more for the specific than the poetic. :-D Thanks for your feedback! (I think I might adjust the synopsis, too.)
