By Tom Stohlgren

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a successful single mom and her daughter escape to a small town for the holidays, they find two less-successful brothers too busy playing Romeo to save their family’s failing diner.

SYNOPSIS:

CAZ DARROW (early-30s) is an almost-engaged single-mom and successful city attorney. She plans to buy a small cabin in the country for telecommuting and has her sights on a historic diner with cabin rentals in the quaint hamlet of Holly's Woods. Her daughter, MERRY (9), would rather stay at the ritzy resort and spa nearby. Caz's personal assistant, MICHAEL (23), is asked to stay in a cabin and secretly investigate the owner's finances to lower the sales price, but things quickly go awry. The property has no cell phone service or Wi-Fi. Caz is now estranged from her almost-fiancé, who Merry doesn't like anyway. In the empty diner, Caz and Merry meet MA BRENNAN (60s) and GRAMPS (70) and get pulled into a loving family at Christmastime. Caz and Merry are infatuated with Ma's oldest son, Romeo #1, DASH (32), a charismatic B-movie producer. Younger brother, IAN (30), Romeo #2 is a shy, struggling theatre actor on Holiday Break, while cute BRITTANY (25), the Juliet to his Romeo, is lured to Holly's Woods to be the femme fatale in Dash's low-budget monster film, "Return of the Yeti."

Ma insists that Caz and Merry stay in the rustic cabin, while Michael enjoys the ritzy resort. We learn that Ma and Gramps are awful cooks, unless they exactly follow Ian's recipes. The diner has suffered since Ian, a trained chef, pursued a theatre career. Meanwhile, Dash's hopes of saving the diner are hampered by a fumbling Yeti and a lousy camera. Caz takes pity on Dash and buys his rusty old car, so he can buy a new lens, but bad performances by a series of Yetis (a Hollywood actor, Gramps, and Michael) doom the production.

Ian's hidden talents as a gifted chef slowly come to light. However, he struggles to express his emotions when practicing his lines as Romeo to Brittany’s Juliet. Meanwhile, Brittany who is drawn to film stardom with Dash. Plans change more as Ian becomes smitten with Caz. Merry and Caz are enchanted by Ian's cooking, but head over heals for Dash and Hollywood filmmaking.

When county officials threaten to rezone the diner property from commercial to residential, Caz steps in to mastermind a plan to save the diner for the Brennans. Caz suggests Dash edit his disastrous monster movie into a comedy. She also convinces Ian to be the chef for a new food truck and the diner. Caz also directs Michael to seek historic designation for the diner. Michael gravitates to Brittany, while Dash (Romeo #1) drops Caz for a famous food critic. It’s not until the final family dinner at the diner that Caz's ex-boyfriend and Ian’s troupe director show up to see Ian openly professes his love for Caz in true Romeo fashion. Caz is the hero for saving the diner, Merry grows closer to her mom and country life, and, yes, they live happily ever after.
