THE BLOODY CLAWS OF WILLOW CREEK

THE BLOODY CLAWS OF WILLOW CREEK
By Matt Hausmann

GENRE: Horror, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A sheriff and his deputies are plagued by a homicide that points to a mysterious creature that ends up attacking them on their search for the murderer in the woods.

SYNOPSIS:

It’s a regular day at the Sheriff’s office in the quaint and quiet town of Willow Creek, California. Sheriff Jason Hart, a well-groomed peacekeeper who has become faithless since the death of his wife years prior, finds ways to entertain himself like flicking pistachio shells through a makeshift football goal. Large animal busts hang around the office like trophies. He chats with his Deputies who are Elroy, a dorky numbskull with a big heart, and Wilma, a wannabe detective. There’s a lack of criminal activity in the peaceful town and Jason wants a dog even though he doesn’t think he wants the responsibility of another life. Everything changes when Jason receives a worrying phone call from a scared citizen, causing the Sheriff and his feeble-minded deputies to investigate.

Jason and his deputies arrive on the scene and find a frightened and deathly pale Lori, who explains that when she arrived home, her husband, Fred was missing and the inside of her cabin was smeared with blood, guts, and entrails. All of their hunting taxidermy busts were piled together and set on fire behind the cabin, and she heard tremendous howls that shook her to her core. Jason and his deputies tentatively enter the ransacked cabin where they find fragments of human remains and enormous footprints. Reluctant to draw murder conclusions, Jason promises to find whoever, or whatever, committed this inhumane atrocity and to bring Fred home. Jason embarks on his quest with a freaked-out Elroy and a pumped-up Wilma. Fearing the situation is out of their league, Elroy suggests they call the feds, but Jason, thrilled with finally having something to do, wants to first do some digging of his own.

Word of the incident has spread throughout the small town. Imagining the worst, angered townspeople gather in the forest with makeshift tools to protect their picturesque Willow’s Creek. Jason and his squad of deputies attempt to calm the crowd, still convinced there’s a rational explanation of the events, and they team up to conduct a search and rescue operation. Harriet Tarnish, the town psychic, warns the crowd of her monstrous vision that will bring fire and death to the town. Sheriff Jason equips the crowd with flare guns and flashlights as they split up and spread out into the foreboding forest to find Fred.

Despite the ominous signs, Jason remains hopeful that Fred is still alive. Things turn south when, one by one, members of the search team are hilariously and horrendously murdered by a huge and hairy monster. Eventually, Jason, Wilma, Elroy, and their group reach a grisly scene, where blood and body parts are scattered, but there are no bodies to be found. There is no more room for skepticism of the supernatural. Jason and his cowardly cohorts hap-hazardously navigate the forest. Blood and bones rain down around our battered and bruised heroes as they run from some kind of huge monster. Harriet prophesies the death of the entire group, but determined to survive, Jason leads the group to seek safety at the nearby cabin of Jason’s friend, Rudy. The ripped Rudy Rigs, backed by his twin sons, reveals that, after his beloved wife was murdered by one of these monsters, he has spent his life avenging her death by hunting Bigfoots. He explains that the creature hunting them is a ten-foot-tall Sasquatch and a protector of the forest. Rudy has been attracting the creature to kill it or force it to retreat to its world. With no choice but to follow orders, the group arm themselves with various weapons provided by Rudy in preparation for the imminent confrontation with the Sasquatch.

The creature moves effortlessly through the woods as it approaches. Suddenly, the cabin is assaulted from all sides, causing everyone to seek shelter in the basement. Rudy battles the beast, but he is quickly overpowered and killed. Panic ensues as the group tries to defend themselves, but the creature proves to be formidable, chasing the group through the forest and town, brutally killing them off one by one.

In a final showdown at the Early Bird Bigfoot Restaurant and Ammo Store (yes, this was an actual place) the maniac beast kills Wilma and Elroy, leaving Jason all alone. Jason vows to avenge their deaths and builds makeshift weapons out of forest materials. The beast rips off Jason’s arm, leaving a sharp, shredded humerus bone that Jason stabs the deadly creature in the neck with, killing it.

Suddenly, multiple Bigfoots step out of blue portals and surround Jason, who can only surrender. The fowl-looking creatures pass by Jason to pick up the dead Bigfoot. One of the beasts gives Jason a congratulatory nod as they disappear back into the portals and the forest returns to normal. Relieved, a beyond-beaten, bloody Jason grabs his severed arm, throws it into his makeshift quiver, and staggers out of the forest.

Jason heads back to the sheriff’s department where he disgusted stares at the taxidermy busts. He sets the office on fire, saying goodbye to his past, throwing his sheriff’s badge in, and prays for protection for all the forest animals. The place goes up in a blaze when animals of all kinds come out of the forest and stand next to Jason to happily watch. Jason’s a new protector of the forest and now has several animal lives to watch over. Jason disappears into the woods with all the animals as the sun rises.
