TOO MUCH FOR WORDS
By James A. Goins

GENRE: Drama, Mystery
LOGLINE:

A story of addiction, betrayal, and trust, as two women attempt to get their lives back on track in the wake of tragedy.

SYNOPSIS:

We open up on a devastating moment in Phoebe Green’s life, as she discovers her beloved husband Donald with a fatal gunshot to the gut – an apparent suicide. He tries to tell Phoebe something important but dies before he can. As Phoebe recovers, she falls deeply in love with another man – the kind-hearted Stanley.

We cut to the life of Horalia, an impoverished mother trying to fight back against her abusive partner Mando. After one of their fights turns particularly violent and she attempts to shoot at him, she gets in trouble with the law. Her mother pulls strings with a lawyer friend to get Horalia’s sentence reduced, but she gets a year probation and group therapy assignment with other abused women to keep her on the right track.

Horalia and Phoebe’s lives begin to intertwine when they get close to one another in therapy. Phoebe begins to work hard on developing a script for Stanley’s producer friend Tony, but as they become involved with Tony, the intense jealousy of Tony’s crazy wife Carmen begins to deteriorate the friendships and relationships of everyone involved.

Meanwhile, Horalia takes actions to keep her son’s life stable, getting a job, sending her son to Texas, and embarrassing Mando by knocking him out and displaying him tied up to a chair for the whole neighborhood to see. Surprisingly, the action kicks off a new path for Mando, as he promises to get his life back together and become a better man for his family – deciding to go to a men’s therapy group as part of that promise. Horalia has her suspicion of Mando’s ability to improve, but her deep love for Mando gives her hope.

Tony and Phoebe begin working overtime together to develop Phoebe’s script – making both Stanley and Carmen jealous of the time they’re spending together. Carmen takes advantage of the situation and begins to plant false evidence of Tony and Phoebe having an affair.

Meanwhile, Stanley gains his own problems when a woman he impregnated in college comes to him and demands that he begin taking a role in their daughter’s life. Stanley tells Phoebe after hiding the news for a while, and they fight, but ultimately have makeup sex and seem to finally fix their problems. However, as Stanley discovers the planted evidence of an affair Carmen left in Phoebe’s apartment, he breaks his relationship off with Phoebe.

Horalia lands an internship that puts her on a successful path and begins to piece her relationship with Mando back together – getting one step closer to having a stable family. In a heartfelt phone call, Phoebe congratulates Horalia on her new steps toward happiness.

The origins of Carmen’s jealous and cruel nature are revealed when she confesses to her personal trainer that she was the one who murdered Donald – and staged it to look like a suicide. Her trainer secretly records the conversation, and quickly gets it to Tony.

Tony goes to apologize to Stanley for Carmen’s false evidence and clears up that he and Phoebe never had an affair. The two, now friends again, update Phoebe on what is going on, and team up to take down Carmen. Now realizing that Phoebe never had an affair, Stanley quickly embraces her.

Tony tricks Carmen into thinking he wants to do kinky roleplay and gets her into handcuffs. He then reveals the tape of her confessing to Donald’s murder, and Carmen is soon taken away by police. In the aftermath of all the chaos, Phoebe is finally ready to put her life back on track. We fade out knowing that both Phoebe and Horalia have finally taken their fates back into their own hands once again.
