When the patriarch of a family dies, his three children will have to figure out what to do with his beloved dog.
SYNOPSIS:
Rick Stanton is a struggling musician who knows he has one thing behind him: his family. Coming home for the holidays, he gets to see his father (Alan) and both of his siblings (Kristen and Steven) for Christmas dinner after another long (and fruitless) tour.
He also gets to see Alan's dog, Bailey, who views Rick as his "person." In a perfect world, Bailey wants to be with Rick full time as even Alan would admit that Bailey is Rick's dog... he just takes care of him while Rick is on the road.
When his father passes suddenly of a heart attack, his children are tasked with dealing with Alan's final wishes. Among them is that Bailey lives with one of them and "want for nothing."
With Rick barely able to take care of himself, Kristen's husband deathly allergic to dogs and Steven's girlfriend not a fan of Bailey or dogs in general, the three will have to figure out what to do with the dog that aligns with their abilities and Alan's final wishes.
Throw in Rick's high school sweet heart Lauren, returning home after some time in Europe (and still single), and Rick's life will change permanently over one fateful Christmas.

I like this concept, Scott Sawitz. I think the logline needs a little work. Not a lot.
Here's a logline suggestion: "When the patriarch of a family dies, his three _____________ (maybe add an adjective) children try to figure out what to do with his beloved dog ____________ (mention something about Christmas)."

L. Tom Deaver it's based off a situation when my grandmother passed ... she had a dog and we all had to figure out where she went. It only clicked in recently because the dog passed, which was our last real connection to her... and at the same time I was trying to adopt a dog who's owner had also just passed in a similar scenario. I kept thinking of the themes of that final connection ... and letting go of your parents.
My condolences to you and your family, Scott Sawitz. My condolences to the family of the owner.
