A German time traveler goes back to 1923 to do historic research on an important historic figure, not Hitler, incorrectly believing the past is unchangeable.

SYNOPSIS:

Zeit Historian – Synopsis

Hans Barkhorn, 30, drives his futuristic sports car on the autobahn. The radio, and Barkhorn’s musings indicate Germany is technologically advanced and the United States is a wannabe country. He drives to the headquarters of the Ministry for Historical Research.

The building is a high-security complex. Hans goes to a wardrobe room and changes into early 20th century clothing. He is to meet the greatest German of all time.

In flashback, scientist explains why there’s no chance of a time traveler changing the past. A time traveler could change the future so such travel is prohibited. That prohibition is the reason for the high security.

Hans gives a short speech about his thoughts on his mission. The lead scientist gives Hans a gold pocket watch. The “watch” is a return device. Hans is sent to 1923.

Hans travels to a Munich soup kitchen. Adolf Frankl, the man Hans came to meet, runs the kitchen. Hans presents himself as a volunteer. Adolf Frankl serves food and speeches. The speeches are meant to uplift the spirits of the impoverished. The impoverished have little interest in speeches.

Hans knows there will be an insurrection tomorrow and Adolf Frankl will make a speech that will lead to Germany becoming a stable democracy with a strong economy.

Outside the kitchen three men attack Hans. Adolf comes on the scene. The thieves kill Adolf and Hans.

A bespeckled Hans drives to a museum in a compact car. Since the 100th Anniversary of the Hitlerputsch is a week away he instructs the docents on how to field museum patrons’ questions about the event. He catalogues some artifacts, including the gold pocket watch he took back in time.
