And, although it isn't my field, I'm amazed it has never been optioned for a film. If there's any whiff of promotion, it simply serves the host, StarShipSofa. They'll get a few extra clicks (it's free to listen), and they are a jolly fine bunch. Oh, and they are always on the look-out for new narrators. Hope this might tickle some of your fancies! Cheers. http://bit.ly/1iroh8M

To my immense surprise, I'm a fully paid up member of the professional audiobook narrators club, now! I've done 6 books this year and, hopefully, more to come. So, bung it over to me at nicholas.camm@sky.com It took me almost a year to get round to getting this done (the host started nagging me): http://bit.ly/1qhycpy my first narration for Tales To Terrify. William Hope Hodgson's House on the Borderland. It's a HUGE 5 1/2 hour horror classic, and it's bloody bonkers. I think this link is for pt4, but all other parts are on the site. (Did you notice how I almost imperceptibly segued into self-promotion, there?!!) Scottish, eh? Hoots mon, it's ben a while since ah did a Skorts accent!
Thank you so much for being willing to even take a wee look, so appreciated. Will send through the story for you to read, would appreciate your thoughts on the story itself, even if is not read aloud. Thank you... so much.
Will PM you.....shortly

So, my question to any narrators out there: what tips, hints, do's and don'ts would you give to an aspiring narrator? Any suggestions welcome, be they blindingly obvious or just downright bizarre. And if you are an aspiring narrator, what would you like to know that would help you on the journey? Thanks muchly, kind folk!

I laughed at the part with the mans bald head... You emphasise the appropriate words so well. I hung on to every word listening. To be so versatile speaking the parts of different characters...How much better can you get.... Mmmmm. I am looking forward to the... Hearing more soon part. Please do send some links for me. I am very keen to hear the sci-fi. You sure are getting your stuff right. Cheers...

The Kosmatka story is probably the most beautiful piece of writing I have had the pleasure to narrate (and not at all sci-fi); the Bloch is just out and out camp, pulpy, horror goodness and the Roberts is the 1st story I did for The Sofa, which got me to thinking I could do this stuff professionally. Thanks for listening, Janet. All the best luck in the world for your future endeavours. http://www.starshipsofa.com/2012/12/04/starshipsofa-no-267-ted-kosmatka/ http://protectingprojectpulp.com/protecting-project-pulp-no-20-robert-bl... http://www.starshipsofa.com/2012/08/22/starshipsofa-no-252-adam-roberts/
Wonderful...I shall enjoy. You have a better Irish accent than I... and I'm half Irish. Robin Williams did a great impression of me in Mrs Doubt fire.... GRINS.

I became a (very) minor British celeb last year as an anonymous, eccentric man-on-the-run-on-the-radio (long story). Over the last year I decided to take the bull by the horns and get into voice acting. By blatant begging and borrowing I've managed to set up a home studio and the vocal wheels are now slowly starting to turn. There's a great sense of satisfaction in having a semblance of control over things instead of waiting for the phone to ring. I also regularly narrate for StarShipSofa.com, a wonderful site if you like your sci-fi. Needless to say, I like my sci-fi. And while we're here, why not say hello on Twitter - @NickCamm1, that's where I do most of my blathering. Thanks for listening, y'all, and have a splendid weekend.
Cheers, Richard. I'm not exactly a newbie, but I thought I'd take Stage 32 by the horns whilst I was in a taking the horns mood....if you will.
My bad, Nicholas! You have been a long time contributor around these parts! Too quick on the trigger.
Hi Nick, where do you recommend on studying acting4camera in England..where its not only for those with a lot of money..I'm looking 4fast paced & short term, ..thanks Jamie knightlifefilms.wix.com/productions
Thought it was about time I posted a demo I made in my (finally finished) home studio.
Writing dialogue is not easy. As a screenwriter you have to know the voice of each of your characters - the way they speak, their jargon, temperament... everything...while writing tight compelling scenes. What in your opinion is the best or your favourite dialogue scene in a movie ever?
Janet: I gotta agree with you. Sideways is the best indie film of the past ten years. What a funny, touching and beautifully acted film by all primary players. Paul Giamatti is the best homely leading man in the biz. I can watch the film over and over.
Janet: Same to you and thanks for the kind words.
Pretty much all of State and Main (love it) and (forgive me, but I LOVE it) pretty much everything in Talladega Nights. Hillarious.

Still very interested!
Audible does NOT give readers 50%. Those days are long gone. It stinks.
Bettye - It just means more books per month, right?

Hugh is a publishing phenomenon, an indie writer who is selling by the million and whose novel 'Wool' has been optioned by Ridley Scott, no less. It's my first recording done with my pro set-up and hope it will lead to greater (or at least paid) things. It'd be fantastic to get some feedback. Do I have a future? Or am I just a naive, misguided fool? The story starts at around 43 mins into the show, if you want to skip. And it's not really heavy Sci-Fi, for those of you who don't like that type of thing. Hope some of you can give it a listen. That would be grand. Oh, and it's free! http://www.starshipsofa.com/2013/04/09/starshipsofa-no-284-hugh-howey/
The dog never seems to have any money, so, alas, I remain an amateur!
