SYNOPSIS—

Set in the vibrant streets of New York City in 1914, “The Stoop Group” pilot introduces us to a close-knit circle of friends who call themselves the Stoop Group. Led by the charismatic and protective Billy, the group consists of individuals from different walks of life unified by their shared addiction to legal drugs like opiates and cocaine.

As the pilot begins, the Stoop Group enjoys a carefree existence, with easy access to their preferred drugs, all of which are legal under current laws. However their idyllic lifestyle is threatened by the soon to be enacted Harrison Anti- Narcotics Act, which will outlaw their drugs of choice starting in March, 1915, six months from the present.

With the unknown severity of the approaching law, the stoop Group’s camaraderie and loyalty are put to the test by the threats and harassment of newly emboldened Federal narcotics agents. They also are singled out for intimidation and robbery by violent gangs who have left their usual slum territories, in an effort to secure drugs to use and sell to desperate addicts during the coming drug drought. From Monk Eastman who has led his notoriously violent gang out from the five points slum to plunder the rest of the city, to the shadowy figure of Charlie, who seems more interested in supplying the Stoop Group with drugs during the coming drug panic., and is later revealed to be future international drug lord, Lucky Luciano.

With the looming prohibition of drugs hanging over their heads, the stoop group embarks on a desperate race against time to stockpile enough drugs to last them through, what they mistakenly hope, will be a short period of time. To succeed at this, they must leave their Greenwich Village neighborhood and venture into the dangerous streets of New York City where they encounter vicious street gangs, corrupt officials and danger around every corner. As tensions rise, and the date for enactment of the Harrison Narcotics Act approaches, the Stoop Group grapples with the harsh reality that their once carefree lives are coming to an end. With their survival hanging in the balance, the friends must struggle to prevent the bonds of their friendship from being broken by the repercussions of the new law, if they hope to survive in a world where their last legal high is about to become a thing of the past.

“The Stoop Group” pilot sets the stage for a many season/episode narrative of “1924- The Last Legal High” series, a gripping dramedy that explores the social, cultural, and political upheavals of early 20th- century America as seen through the lens of a group of drug using friends, who are faced by danger every where they turn and worse, are on the brink of losing a life they have come to love.
