When an entitled and agist Gen Z kid hits and hurts a senior citizen, he is sentenced to three months hard time – as the elderly man’s roommate in a retirement community.

SYNOPSIS:

In South Daytona, Florida, BRYCE PRESCOTT, 22, races his car frantically, with a time limit in mind, scaring old people in his way. We go back five minutes earlier and see him in his apartment with his friend, FRANCIS “BUBBLE GUM” LUCAS, 22, complaining that Bubble Gum lives there for free but ate all the food, and Bryce wants to train for a gaming tournament, eat an edible and then tear into munchies. He pops the edible, and the countdown begins to go and get snacks before it hits. He tears off, encounters many obstacles in the form of slow-moving old folks, and gets food but time runs out and the edible hits. This causes him to hit ELDIE HUNT, 80, and knock him down.

COPS arrive, Bryce checks Eldie, and then we flashback to 5 years earlier, when Bryce 17, was playing video games and his GRAMPS yelled at him to make something out of his life and not to hang out with Bubble Gum, and then Gramps had a heart attack and died on younger Bryce. Back to present day, we see that this has stayed with him and now he has a really hard time dealing with older people. He’s arrested and bailed out by his girlfriend, CRYSTAL, 21, who takes him home. He assures her that things will be fine, especially once he wins a big gaming tournament three months from now, but she reminds him that he’s not used to playing war games.

As Bryce’s father seems to have stopped paying his rent and he needs legal help, he visits his dad, WILLIAM PRESCOTT, 45, and William’s lawyer, THOMAS HEPNER, 62, who will help him. However, William is cutting Bryce off now that he’s 22, and he wants Bryce to grow up. Since Bryce’s BMW is in the shop, William tells him he’s not getting it back, and gives him a 70’s Pinto, which Bryce embarrassingly drives away in. Soon it’s time for his court date and Eldie is there, feeling better and quite polite, but there are a lot of other SENIOR CITIZENS, who are not so polite. In fact, many of them yell at Bryce for all the rude behavior he’s committed over time, something Crystal overhears.

JUDGE SWANSON, 78, could go easy on him, but after hearing all his transgressions, and learning that Eldie wants a roommate, he sentences Bryce to three months as Eldie’s roommate in the Shady Meadows Senior Community. This is Bryce’s worst nightmare. He and Bubble Gum head over, where the scary and decrepit guard, ABE, 85, lets them in and Eldie greets Bryce warmly, while the other residents do not. They all gather round, and no one helps Bryce move in. Afterwards, Bubble Gum meets with PHIL SLOAN, 43, to interview for a delivery job at William’s company that Bryce got him, but Bubble Gum wants to work remotely and walks out of the interview.

Back at the community, Eldie takes Bryce around and introduces him to some of the other residents including his best friend, OTIS JOHNSON; a doctor, LANDRY PIERCE, 65; hippie FANNY, 78, who encourages people to eat insects; and the still muscular and always shows it - RONNIE BACHELOR, 82. They head to a café where “elder Karen”, MAUREEN, 74, an irate board member, does not like a young person on the premises. Bryce is overloaded and they head to the pool where he checks in with Bubble Gum and can’t believe he blew off the interview. As he talks on the phone, he’s surprised to see the sexy SANDY, 72, swimming, and is even more surprised that he finds her attractive. Eldie refers to her as Sexy Sandy but he goes for a more quiet type like MARIE, 78. Since Bryce was embarrassed by Eldie, he does the same, and shouts out to Marie that Eldie is hot for her. Eldie gets angry and takes Bryce back to their place.

Bryce can’t believe some of the ways that Eldie lives and vice versa, and Bryce goes to call Crystal, but she is put off by his attitude to the elder residents (who keep listening in on his call) and his graphic comments as opposed to romantic ones. She tells him they may want to take a break and hangs up, commiserating with her grandmother, MARTHA, 75, who believes Bryce just needs some time to mature. Later, Bryce finds himself searching the internet for sexy seniors, and is interrupted by Eldie. That night, thanks to edibles, Bryce has weird dreams and runs out in his underwear, begging Abe to let him out of there, but then returns to Eldie’s. The next day William visits and has a heart to heart about Bryce needing to grow up, get over his PTSD from his grandfather’s death, and start pulling his own weight.

As Bryce plays video games, Eldie interrupts and tells him that the judge ordered Bryce to get involved in activities and get out a bit, so they sample a few here at the community. Afterwards Bryce lies in bed, hears Eldie’s humongous fart, and records it. Bryce mentions this the next day, when Eldie goes off to church and Bryce hits the pool. He swims and gets an erection when he sees Sandy, and Ron, the lifeguard rescues him, and everyone can see his robust reaction. Later, Bryce plays Call of Duty- Nam and convinces Bubble Gum to visit, while at church Eldie finds Marie and asks her to be his date at the upcoming talent show, which he will also perform in, and she says yes. When he returns home, Eldie is happy to see the boys watching war movies for research, as he is a veteran, and he tells them about his upcoming date. He asks if Bryce and his lady want to double date, and Bubble Gum comments that Bryce is warming up to seniors.

The next day Eldie and Bryce play frisbee. Maureen comes over, angry that Bryce is participating in activities, and reveals that Eldie lied about the judge ordering this. Bryce is angry at Eldie, until Eldie shares that he had a son that stayed in his room and then O.D.’d and died, which also ended up killing Eldie’s wife, and he wants Bryce to live life to the fullest. Bryce softens and even makes them breakfast the next day. Bryce then gets his father to tell the judge to order him to participate in activities, as he’s beginning to like them now. This makes William happy, and he does it. Soon, Bryce plays his game poorly and Eldie decides to help him. Since he and his friends do re-enactments, they can do a Nam one, and they do. A group assemble with weapons that shoot blanks, and Bryce is not very good, but soon improves under Eldie’s guidance. Eldie then coaches him on the game itself, and he not only improves, but he also teaches some of the residents to play. Maureen gets upset, but the judge decreed he participate, and everyone is enjoying themselves.

Soon, the night of the double date occurs, and there is a huge contrast with the way that Eldie acts like a gentleman to Marie, but Bryce seem a bit like an ogre with Crystal. Things escalate as they head to the ballroom for the talent show, hosted by HARRY, 78. Harry does some comedy, and then Otis plays the trumpet while Eldie tap dances. Everyone loves it. Then some other acts perform, and Sandy comes over to the table and flirts with Bryce, making Crystal angry. She gets angrier when Bryce bad mouths seniors, thinking he’s making her feel better. She walks out on him, and Eldie tells him to go after her and apologize, but Bryce misses her, as she drives off in a taxi.

Soon, Bryce feels awful and leaves various messages for Crystal, but she doesn’t respond. Eldie offers some advice and comfort, but Bryce feels miserable, especially as he strolls around the community, watching happy couples. As he plays Call of Duty, Eldie comes to take him outside to play frisbee and talk about women. However, at one point Bryce throws a frisbee and hits a statue of George Burns, that tumbles onto Eldie. Landry the doctor comes over and Otis calls for an ambulance. Eldie comes to, tells Bryce to call Marie, forgive his grandpa, and win that gaming trophy… and dies. Bryce cries but promises to live a full life. Bryce leaves a sad and sincere message for Crystal, and she joins him at Eldie’s funeral. His eulogy gets to her heart and when he apologizes to her, she forgives him.

Soon it’s time for the tournament in Miami, where Bubble Gum and Crystal have come with Bryce, to offer their support. Bryce plays his heart out, and then remembers Eldie and the advice he gave him regarding the game, along with other things, and wins. Bryce thanks Crystal with a sweet line that he stole from Eldie, then Bubble Gum, and then really thanks Eldie – for everything. He plays Eldie’s fart for everyone, and they all break into laughter. As they drive home, they are again slowed down by older drivers, and Bryce again has taken an edible that hits and makes him paranoid. He has Crystal drive and asks her if they get married and after their kids go to college, can they live someplace like Shady Meadows. She tells him to slow down, although later she’s happy to get a bouquet of flowers from Bryce saying that he’ll never take her for granted again.

Six months later, Bryce pulls up to Abe at Shady Meadows in his BMW, to teach his gamer class to the residents. Bryce is surprised to see that Bubble Gum got a job here as a pool boy, and Sandy comes by, saying that Bubble Gum is her new boy toy. Bubble Gum is happy and wanted to lose his virginity and mentions how Bryce and Crystal are now engaged. Bryce then heads to his class where everyone enjoys themselves, and so does he.
