FANTASY FESTIVAL
By Kat Rollinson

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

Two clueless teens stranded at a festival 30 years in the past battle their inexperience and emotional hang-ups as they form pivotal relationships and seek a pathway home.

SYNOPSIS:

With Ian’s cynicism and Sanjay’s bravado, it’s no wonder these high-schoolers don’t get invited to parties. Thankfully they have festival tickets, which should distract Ian from moping over Liv, and give Sanjay a break from antagonistic Emily for one weekend. Having gone to sleep at Glastonbury 2017, they awake to the disconcerting but exciting realisation that they are at the same festival, but in 1987. How did they get there, and what will get them home? For once, they could be forgiven for being clueless.

The boys ricochet between enjoying the magical glimpse of classic bands, and trying to fathom how to get home, worried that they will be stranded in unfamiliar territory after the magic ends. As the festival unfolds, they encounter some people who will change their outlook on life. Ian is quickly smitten by bubbly Suze, who boosts his confidence by articulating his merits, and shows him that the risk of taking a leap can be worth the reward. Uptight Fiona is a tough nut for Sanjay to crack, until she unveils a kindred spirit. Sanjay’s obsession with losing his virginity is finally satisfied, which turns out to be more meaningful than he had expected. Northern English scruff-bag Kev invades everyone’s personal space, doling out the festival goodies to keep the party going, but is secretly lonely, and terrified of being an in-the-closet gay man in the 80s. Meanwhile in 2017, Emily places her trust in the wrong person, causing Liv to come out fighting.

At the end of the festival, Ian and Sanjay materialise back into 2017, torn between relief and frustration as they lament their lost relationships, and look to the future. Kev blunders back into their lives, causing them to reconsider the possible reason for their temporal adventure. Kev’s future looks rosy, especially with encouragement from enthusiastic new gay friend, Dylan. Sanjay's new-found maturity enables him to empathise with those around him - including Emily. Emboldened by his encounter with Suze, Ian finally tries his luck with Liv, only to find that present-day Suze has a little surprise in store for him that could make things somewhat complicated: Liv is her daughter.
