SYNOPSIS:

Some say music has the power to heal a wounded soul. When internal wounds are harsh and severe, and the unending search for closure and healing seems to be too much to handle, where does one turn? What if painful memories still haunt and torture?

Broken Arpeggio is a poignant and powerful drama about a young single mother who still carries the emotional trauma of a horribly abusive and alcoholic mother. The scars and pain run deep, and our heroine, Maury Latimer, is fighting a constant battle not to treat her own daughters the same way her mother treated her. Her constant inner struggles and turmoil eat away at her very soul.

Upon the death of her estranged mother, Maury inherits an old and broken down Kimball upright piano, the same one that her mother cruelly demanded she practice on when she was a child. Horrible memories begin to flood in at the sight of the musical instrument, but she takes it into her home, much to the delight of her two daughters, who beg for lessons.

The nearly dilapidated piano sits gathering dust for weeks, until an elderly, charming and eccentric music teacher, Polly Jamison, enters the picture. Polly becomes immediately taken with the struggling family and offers to teach them for free. As soon as a reluctant Maury sits on the piano bench, she immediately exhibits perfect fingering and technique. With careful help and guidance from a patient and persistent Polly, Maury’s long-buried musical genius soon emerges. She eventually manages to put her abusive past behind her, and uses her talents to give hope and encouragement to other child abuse survivors. Despite the heartbreaking death of her mentor and neo-mother-figure, the heroine finds the inner strength overcome painful memories and come to terms with her own shortcomings and parenting.

Broken Arpeggio is an emotionally gripping drama about hope,

change and the challenge to heal from wounds of the heart. A vulnerable

young child is subjected to cruelty and, as an adult, finds the inner

strength to heal through the power of music.

Broken Arpeggio is disturbing, touching and has a broad demographic

appeal. It also takes a unique slant on the genre, as this idea is

completely original. In particular, the story should appeal to any

audience who enjoys a good, dramatic film. Any fan of the “art-house”

genre will enjoy Broken Arpeggio.
