HE'S ALL I NEED
By Ginger Gilley

GENRE: Other, Biography
LOGLINE:

Reality strikes hard on a naive 22-year-old when the gavel slams down like a bomb after the words “10 years in San Quentin”.  Grief-stricken and suicidal, Mandell Motley finally commits to God’s calling after years of running and rebelling. His dedicated service behind the walls, brings miracles beyond belief, to this humble country boy inside the confines of San Quentin.

SYNOPSIS:

Named after the 3-time Grammy nominated gospel album sung by the San Quentin Mass Choir produced by The Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart, He’s All I Need is a true story about the life of Pastor Mandell Motley; the man who recruited, revamped and lead the choir.

At the tender age of 22, Mandell was sentenced to 10 years in prison at the notorious San Quentin penitentiary for multi-state non-violent crimes. Overcoming grief, suicide, and the inherent dangers behind its walls, Mandell spread hope, inspiration, and internal freedom throughout the prison walls.

The resilient foundation he builds for himself within the prison walls holds strong when he finds himself the victim of inhumane treatment and atrocities at the hands of Texas law enforcement 25 years after time served.

The story sounds cool, Ginger. The logline, I've always been taught, should be 1-2 sentences. I think you have a combo logline/synopsis. But still cool!

Jon, thank you for the feedback. Great advice. It is a true story - he did all of those things while in prison, not after.

I'd leave out the non-violent crimes bit (we can learn about what they did in the film).

After years of searching, Mandell finds redemption and righteousness in the most unlikely place - San Quentin prison. Despite the resistance of the system, he becomes a source of inspiration for those around him.

I sat through a State 32 webinar last night. I would appreciate feedback on the log line rewrite.

Yes, make it! Sounds like a streaming piece. absolutely. (I watched Los Tigres Del Norte, who went to Folsom Prison like Johnny Cash, and it was fascinating. Got to hear great texano music to.)
