Coffee & Content: Jason Sudeikis on the Making of TED LASSO & an Interview with the Creators of HACKS

Happy Sunday Creative Army!

Have you had a creative weekend so far? I have some content here for you that is sure to get the creative juices flowing, so grab your coffee and let's dive in.

First up, Backstage shares an amazing and in-depth interview with Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt on the Making of Apple TV's TED LASSO. With a whopping 20 Emmy Nominations (including best comedy series and best writing in a comedy), there is a lot to learn from these talented folks. Both Brendan and Jason serve as producers, writers, and stars of the show - so they both have a uniquely well rounded insight into the process that made made an Emmy-nominated show.

Next up, to keep on the Emmy-nominated train, IndieWire recently shared a great interview with the creators of HBO Max's HACKS. This video features the Emmy-nominated Hacks writers and creators Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs. They talk about everything from what inspired the idea of the show to how the cast came together.

I loved Jason’s advice to an 11-yr-old scriptwriter: “Finish it! Don’t brag about writing a script, brag about finishing your ninth script.” And, “don’t be a turkey!” I’ve been watching reruns on the great but dated Dick Van Dyke show, so Hacks is now on my watchlist. Thanks for posting, R.B.

That first script/ninth script line is so spot on.  Couldn't agree more, Tom.

I really like "Ted Lasso" - I learned more about UK soccer (football) as well as how to do specific accents watching the show!

Wow, Jason is as kind as Ted. His kindness showed in so many ways...always including Brent..giving more time at the end being aware of the eleven year old boy. As a casting director/actor/writer....I really appreciated his comments on what casting directors do and loved the part about not having turkeys around you.

Indiewire video! Character driven jokes are the best. It's not the funniest joke  but the one that's accurate to the character. Loved also the surprise guest appearing up in the middle for a short time. Time to melt into the coffee trance before drifting on the alpha waves towards the Backstage video. Have an enjoyable Sunday!
