I always find it fascinating to see animation expand into genres that it is typically not associated with. Here's an interview with someone who is doing just that!

Thanks for sharing the interview, Bob Harper. "Stopmotion" looks creepy! It's my favorite animation style mixed with one of my favorite genres to write/watch.
Robert Morgan said "When I animate my own stuff, I don’t storyboard much. I might do rough thumbnail sketches for a complicated sequence. But I tend to shoot and edit as I go, so I can make decisions based on the last shot." That's interesting because storyboarding is huge in Animation. It's harder and more expensive to fix issues during production when it's an animated project, so it's best to figure things out in pre-production (like storyboarding) to avoid any unnecessary issues.

Maurice Vaughan, I also do the same thing he does when animating my stuff. Storyboards are essential when working with a team to convey the director's vision. But if you are animating yourself, you don't necessarily need to draw it out in great detail. He mentioned that he'll thumbnail or rough out a sequence. I'm currently animating a short this way and I'm enjoying the process.

Ohhh ok, Bob Harper. Thanks for explaining. Is your short about a grilled cheese sandwich that goes on an adventure? "Indiana Sandwich."

Maurice Vaughan The short I'm making is an adult comedy, a parody based on a famous children's story. I'll announce it once it starts getting into festivals, hopefully before the end of the year.

Cool, Bob Harper. Hope your short does great in the festivals! Looking forward to seeing it one day.
I've been thinking about turning a short script into an animated Adult Comedy series. The story could work as a cartoon for older kids too, so I'm not sure which direction I'm going in.

I saw this last fall (at the same fest I saw Robot Dreams) and it’s super creepy. Story had some issues, but overall a recommend for horror and stop motion fans.
I would say some scenes would benefit from Storyboarding more than others. Many times the stop motion segments are dream-like, meant to intercut with the live action characters thoughts. Other times when the live action and animation interact directly I could see storyboards being more important.
