Hey Ashley Renee Smith I was just going to post about this. First impressions, wow!
As a portrait photographer for 22 years, I used to only use Nikon gear. Starting with film, then moving to digital. And when I started to dive into the filmmaking scene, I realized Nikon just wasn't cutting it with features (video wise). Now, they have cameras with internal raw, which is amazing. Of course that started the debacle with RED. Now they own RED? Nuts!! But, I think a good thing! Maybe RED will actually make a camera the average filmmaker can afford now!
Stephen Folker, I have a soft spot for Nikon. My husband was a senior lens tech and assistant design engineer at Zero Optik for years and they specialize in rehousing Nikon lenses, so I've been around them more than others. I think it's a really interesting acquisition and I'm excited to see what it could mean for the future of RED products.
Time will tell. It places Nikon in a very interesting area and puts pressure on Canon's waning line of cinema cameras. I was a Nikonian for many years so I have a soft spot for them.
Ashley Renee Smith thans for the post ! Stephen Folker I had a D5600, I ended up selling it. The BLACKMAGIC has a similar texture to the NIKON, which is what caught my attention in some cameras. But I did some work with NIKON. Now, with RED being part of it, we have a lot of good things to do, something good will come out of independent producers!
I take this as welcome, or at least very interesting, news. My wife and I have been shooting still photography with Nikon for decades. I love the brand. My hope is this means Nikon has hopes of becoming a big player in the feature film cinematography space.

Another small but mighty fish gets swallowed by the giants. Should be a good connection if done correctly.
