Around the World - Words, Music, Video

Music for a chilled Sunday - As we know, our community is one million strong. We are a world-wide phenomenon and so I thought I’d celebrate songwriting from around the world; posting the lyrics and any videos I can find on YT.

I thought I’d start with New Zealand and the talents of Crowded House and Neil Finn. Sting described him as a poet, perhaps as Poet Laureate and every time I play this song I marvel at the lyrics, perhaps because they speak to the poet in me.

As a screenwriter and author, I love words; the way they sing on the page, how they can render me both speechless and inspired, elated and melancholic. They are not a means to an end, but the end themselves. They are not mere process or utility, but catalysts for change, in me and the world.

Here’s the song, “Four Seasons in One Day”

Four seasons in one day

Lying in the depths of your imagination

Worlds above and worlds below

The sun shines on the black clouds hanging over the domain

Even when you're feeling warm

The temperature could drop away

Like four seasons in one day

Smiling as the shit comes down

You can tell a man from what he has to say

Everything gets turned around

And I will risk my neck again, again

You can take me where you will

Up the creek and through the mill

Like all the things you can't explain

Four seasons in one day

Blood dries up

Like rain, like rain

Fills my cup

Like four seasons in one day

It doesn't pay to make predictions

Sleeping on an unmade bed

Finding out wherever there is comfort there is pain

Only one step away

Like four seasons in one day

Blood dries up

Like rain, like rain

Fills my cup

Like four seasons in one day

Songwriters: Neil Finn / Tim Finn

Maurice Vaughan

Incredible song, @Geoff Hall! And catchy! You said, "They are not mere process or utility, but catalysts for change, in me and the world." You're right. Even though a big part of a screenwriter's job is to write an entertaining story, a screenwriter can also write scenes within stories that prompt change. The same with songwriters, authors, etc.

Thanks so much for sharing, Geoff Hall . And Maurice Vaughan , couldn't agree with you more.

Maurice Vaughan Elena Maro I included the words because I want us to cherish, to value them more. Finn writes sheer poetry!
