Losing Contrast and Saturation of a show on TV screen.

Hello there. I'm Alan and for the first time in my life I work as a colorist for a TV show. I noticed that the grade on the show looks less saturated and constratie while airing on a TV. It desaturates the oranges way more than the other colors. Do some of my you the reason for this phenomenon?

David Kleve

The sensors in the camera array can only approximate what we see. I believe there a quite a few adjustments occur to get the colors to match what the eye actually does see. Film had the same issues which is why it would have to be color corrected. I don't know specifically what causes it to desaturate oranges but that may be in the image processing.

Are you coloring to broadcast standards? That's your deliverable. Unfortunately each device - TV, smartphones, computer, tablet - can make the colors, image look slightly different. TVs have different settings which affect the image.
