Webinar soon! A Producer's Essential Guide to International Co Productions!

In this 90-minute webinar, Academy & BAFTA Award-winning Producer Gareth Ellis Unwin will use his background as an experienced producer to showcase his approach to creating a successful international co-production.

Using examples from the various projects he has co-produced under Bedlam Film Productions, such as Birdcatcher (UK/Norway), Steel Country (UK/USA) and Zaytoun (UK/France/Israel), Gareth will cover an array of topics including: the different types of co-productions and how they are structured, the benefits and common pitfalls, what you need to be looking for in a good co-production, as well as co-production financing. Breaking down each stage of the process from conception through to release, Gareth will also talk about things to be mindful of during each stage of the filming process from pre-production through to post-production.

Beginning with the genesis and initial development period, Gareth will talk about making the decision to co-produce, highlighting the opportunities and challenges this poses and the process of selecting partners. Moving on to cover the fundamentals of project financing and scheduling, Gareth will walk you through example finance plans and schedules from Bedlam’s film catalogue, before providing a look at how the pre production, production, and post-production workflow on these projects was managed as an international co-production. Finally, Gareth will reveal the benefits of working on co-productions, before ending on his final reflections of his experiences with co-production as a whole.

Hi Gareth, I am a screenwriter and looking forward to this webinar. Last week, I attended a webinar and spoke with Joan Lane who wrote the screenplay of The King's Speech so I am looking forward to your insights as a producer as well and had some questions. A couple questions in advance is: Can you address in your presentations from a screenwriter's perspective advice on writing style if we know we are a) not only writing for US audiences but may have them produced in other countries, and b) also if we want to give them a more international universal appeal. c) What should we consider in our writing of those scripts? d) And as many socially relevant topics are getting harder to get produced in the US due to social changes here, is it easier to have them produced in the UK who are more open to producing films or TV that tackle socially relevant issues? With thanks and looking forward to your webinar, Ricki Linksman
