About Royce

Stage32 allows me to locate talented newcomers: it's interesting to see what everyone is up to in this time of unparalleled access to the technologies of expression. I'm a California based Director / Writer / Producer (who happens to have had a long career as cinematographer). I currently have a dozen feature and episodic projects in development.

I grew up in an affluent beach community crawling with both budding & established actors, photographers & similar creatives. I first laced up a spring driven Bolex & shot my own self-funded, self scripted, intentional movies at the age of 12 (that was 1974). After producing & directing my first feature film in 1981, I stepped aside to pursue cinematography alone as a part time craft while working professionally in the then-exploding windsurfing industry. By 1990, I was building and remodeling houses because babies love to eat; finally returning to my native Southern California in the late 90's where I have worked as a full-time cinematographer & occasional producer or director since.

In 2014, I began supervising the day -to -day back-end operations of a major independent studio in Los Angeles, my first " day job" in 20 years. I am still involved in that world as well.

My creative focus has now come full circle to developing a slate of my own feature and web series projects, while also occasionally partnering with select other filmmakers as producer. I still work as a DP when something interests me and has a realistic budget that allows me to do it right, my way... compromising one's work is a waste of breath no matter how much it pays.

Unique traits: I have served as Director of Photography on 47 independent feature films crossing every format, budget & genre.

Too often the media celebrates aspects of our society that belong in the dark ages, while at the same time ignoring or ridiculing progressive thinking or ideas. Many aspects of the way our systems work almost guarantee our destruction as a society and that's what this film is about. Fractured societies, poverty, disparity, pollution, warfare. Is there something inherently wrong with the human race? Is that what we should think of ourselves? We have tried to set up forms of law and government that safeguard the public good. But, if the majority of people want to live in peace and justice in a clean environment and we look around at the world and see that isn't ... Written by Media For Action
