Quite a few people adding me lately, so here's a quick update: the play went down well. We received quite a few laughs, we didn't get kicked out of our Catholic college with our Jeremy Kyle/Jerry Springer type Nativity, and I managed to get the exact responses from the audience with my "Applaud" and "Boo" signs. I call that a success.

Production of the play continues. The cast are getting their lines down, and taking on whatever feedback they can. This day next week, it goes on stage, accompanied by an adaptation of The Dead by James Joyce, and a parody of Twilight.

Hi Emmett, Yeah, we're rehearsing in Dublin. It's a small college performance. I'll keep you in mind if I ever need music! Thanks for popping by, Paul.

Great thanks Paul :)

Currently in the rehearsal stage of a short script I wrote for the Drama Soc in college, 'The Jerry Davidson Show: The Nativity', a parody of the nativity story in Jeremy Kyle/Jerry Springer style. Very happy with the script, but we're under a lot of pressure to get people to learn lines in a relati...

It's been a while since I signed in here. I think part of me still doesn't feel like I "belong" here - my acting is limited to college, and I have an on-again, off-again relationship with script writing. Sure we'll see what happens. I'll try get on more often.

Directing your own work?

I'm curious: are there any writers out there who direct their own plays? Mamet did it a few times with his work, with little success as a director. Is it a good idea? If you do it, what advice can you give to get the best out of the script without being overly protective of it?

Brian LaPan

A director can see things the writer misses and add to the mix. But it's up to you (in theatre) to allow any real changes. My thoughts are "if they make the piece better" - great. As far as not being...

Aspiring Writer, part-time actor

Hi everyone, I'm an aspiring writer from Dublin, aged 21. I dabble in acting in college, with the Drama Soc putting on a play I wrote this year. I'm always looking for work and conversation, so if you can provide either please pop along and say hi. I mainly write fiction (novellas and novels), but I...
