About Channing

I'm Channing Hillway, living and writing in La Quinta, near Palm Springs. Thanks to my remarkably helpful colleagues in the Ventura County Writers Club and, currently, Palm Springs Writers Guild.
My desire to write began in high school, in Oregon, all influencers pushing against it. My creativity persisted in music, and starring in local musical comedy. My first screenplay received high praise at the University of Oregon. Rod Serling sent it back, wishing me good luck. Always a creative and always writing something, I wrote and produced audio documentaries for the American Forces Network: Europe, years later writing and narrating video documentaries for the US Navy, in So Cal. Spending years as an educator, finally earning a PhD at UC: Santa Barbara, I remained the outlier, promoting approaches to education supported by research, rejected by administrators, school boards, and many of my peers. Retired in So Cal, I began writing non-fiction, stressful, surprising myself by shifting to fiction, liberating, settling on a novel hoping to become screenplays for a series on HBO.

Unique traits: Strong grasp of personality type, including psychopathic behavior. Conceptualizing the large plot, allowing my characters to speak in story development, visualizing the place, spacial connections. Grasping complexity, relating it and simplifying in the story, bringing the reader/viewer into the story, the place. Emotions lead everything to the reader/viewer. Editing the manuscript/screenplay multiple times, rewrite for clarity, emotion, hooking the reader/viewer. Erotic descriptions, explicit in manuscripts, within guidelines in screenplays.
